Around SBN: Bracketology 2012: Duke Finally Steps Up To The No. 1 Line

Yep, I'm bored

Choke on this
8-2 in the last 10 games. The starting rotation looks like it's worked itself back in shape. -- I have more confidence in this team right now than I've had all season.

I'm sure that Boston fans are salivating at the prospect of facing Jose Contreras in game 1. -- Good. They have no idea what they are in store for. -- I hope the Boston hitters feel the same way. That's the perfect set up for a complete game 12+ strikeout performance.

ALDS Roster
Outfielders (5) -- Podsednik, Rowand, Dye, Everett, Perez
Infielders (7) -- Konerko, Iguchi, Uribe, Crede, Blum, Harris, Ozuna
Catchers (2) -- Pierzynski, Widger

Rotation (4)
-- Contreras, Buhrle, Garcia, Garland
Bullpen (7) -- Jenks, Hermanson, Marte, Cotts, Politte, Vizcaino, Hernandez

Viz/Duq over McCarthy
I think I understand, if not necessarily agree with, the logic of leaving McCarthy off the roster for the first series. They want to use him as a starter and the only way he'd start in a 5 game series would be in the 5th - not likely. They think they would get a better versatility from Viz/El Duque in that both seem to be able to do long and short relief. I say seem because El Duque has been a short reliever for about 72 hours now.

I think they feel that a start for McCarthy in a seven game series might be less risky and allow the other starters to be rested regardless of the length of the alds. It also means they have no plans for an El Duque start.

The bench may be one of the worst ever for a playoff series. Coming into spring training, every one of them -Harris, Perez, Osuna, Blum and Widger - was iffy as to whether they would make a major league roster. Can you guarantee they will be on one next year?

They will miss Gload's bat

Gload
He sucks. I am NOT MISSING him one bit. That means that 1 less pop-up per at-bat.

that precise analysis aside...
you prefer Blum whohas career minor league ba of .267?

Gloads career BA is +30pts and OPS is +30 than that of Blum; +20 and +80 (!) on Timo and +10 and +100(!) on Pablo O.

None of these guys are Gold Glovers. This bench is pathetic offensively and Ross Gload is the best of them

i prefer
to go with the veterans, even if the rookies have shown some sporadic "toughness".  they "the vets" have ridden the buses longer and put the time in. they understand heartache and loneliness, they are hungrier and deserve their shot. they may be a little long in the tooth but they should not be discarded.  you leave hernandez off you may as well leave contre off too.  i think oz  understands this and i applaud him.
complaining is self-perpetuating and non-productive, but it sure feels good.

Umm...
No.

I'll go out on a limb and say that nobody who posts here has seen the White Sox win a title.

No sentimental BS.  Go with your best 25 guys.  Period.

Agreed
I don't care about how many bus or plane hours someone puts in I want to win.  If we go to the big series I say we have a SSS day and see if we can all get tickets.

speaking of that
IF Chicago wins this series, when would ALCS tickets go on sale?  Do they go on sale after the series is won or some other time?  I went to a Twins/Yankees Wild Card game last year, so I want to go to a ALCS game this year if Chicago goes.

I was similarly unemployed in 83
and in a hip to ankle cast which did not allow me to sit. I went to the Game 4 (Dybzinski, Tito Landrum game) and even though they lost and I had to stand in the top row of the upper deck and  I was in pain throughout (alcohol helped) I loved every minute of it and I'll never forget it.

I went over to...
Overthemonster.com and read what was being said about Chicago.  They really have paid no attention to the transformation in Contreras this year as all they talk about is how well they hit him.  I really don't think this is the same pitcher that they clubbed while with the Yankees.

Reading too much Boston self-love reminded me about how much I really hate the Red Sox.  I liked them last year, the whole curse-ending thing was fun...but hey, it's easy to win when you're spending that much money.  Us against the world is lame when you're spending $200 mil.

Loveable losers to hatable winners...go take 'em down boys.

(oh...and I took part of the day off today so that I'll be home to watch the game after all)

agreed
Watching the Red Sox/Yankees series I realized that the Red Sox aren't anymore likeable than the Yankees.  The teams are no longer opposites but one of the same.

Anyone else getting anxious
for this thing to start?

Here's to a big series from Podsednik, because let's face it, we're a different (read: better) team when he's on his game.

possum?
any possibility that pods was being held back by the team?  i think it's no secret we're better when he is agressive and gives our pitchers an early run or two to get comfortable.  do you think he has been held back in the regular season and now that we're in the post season we'll see him return to his form of the first 4 months of the season with regards to his attitude on the base path?  watching him steal 4 or 5 bases in the last 6 weeks was painful.
