Cleveland view of the Thome trade

From the Akron Beacon Journal there's this:
http://www.ohio.com/mld/beaconjournal/sports/13267793.htm

So the columnist thinks it was a good trade...for the Indians.

I have to say that I agree, and I'm surprised by the generally positive reaction on this site. Thome is 35 and has major injury issues. I can't imagine he has much left. What are the odds he can generate a .900 OPS next year, let alone the two years after that?

The Journal article makes it sound like his health could easily prevent him from playing 1B, which greatly lessens his value as Konerko insurance.

I have a sinking feeling that the Sox are on the hook for $8 million a year for 3 years to player who won't be able to play. And really, if the Cubs, Sox and Cleveland were the only teams he would come to, why did Williams give up so much?

Finally, the Journal article states that Gonzalez  has a 95 MPH fastball. That's not even close to true, is it?
