Sox @ Devil Rays -- 5/09/05

Scott Podsednik, LF Alex Sanchez, DH Tadahito Iguchi, 2B Julio Lugo, SS Carl Everett, DH Carl Crawford, LF Paul Konerko, 1B Aubrey Huff, 1B Aaron Rowand, CF Nick Green, 2B Jermaine Dye, RF Damon Hollins, CF A.J. Pierzynski, C Chris Singleton, RF Joe Crede, 3B Toby Hall, C Juan Uribe, SS Jorge Cantu, 3B

When your DH is leading off, I don't think that is a good sign.  I do really like their 2-3-4-5 hitters though.

Hideo Nomo takes the hill for the D-rays against Freddy Garcia for the Southsiders.  Could be an interesting matchup. Nomo was dominant in an outing against Randy Johnson and the Yankees, but has otherwise pitched batting practice.

Ugh.
Just about sums it up.  On the other hand, the Twins lost so it's not a total loss.

Iguchi
What are your impressions on Iguchi so far? I see he's hitting well for average but not a lot of anything else, but I'm more interested in his defense. This was the first I had seen of him and he looked very sure-handed and smooth out there, really enjoyable to watch. How's his range?

Re: Iguchi
He's got adequate range. Though it appears to be better inside on the turf, as he's more used to that style of play from Japan.  He makes every play that a good second baseman would, and is a great decision maker.

On offense, I couldn't be more pleased.  He has obviously just been looking to get on base with the stick. He's not really hitting for any power. Part of that is because they've drilled him to go to right field. His power is definitely in left.

It's there too. I don't expect him to hit .300 for the whole season, but he's at least a .285 hitter. With some pop. He hasn't walked much, but he's very good at working the count. I would expect him to walk more as the season drags on.
