Around SBN: Will Rhymes 'Fine' After Being Hit By Pitch And Fainting

Esoteric First Half Stats

I decided to see what our squads ERA+ and OPS+ marks would be at the halfway point of the season. I fudged a little bit on the park factors, but these figures should be pretty darn close correct.

Batsmen

2005 OPS+ Career Paul Konerko 114 111 Aaron Rowand 88 109 Jermaine Dye 120 103 S. Podsednik 90 94 T. Iguchi 96 -- Joe Crede 88 89 Carl Everett 106 112 A. Pierzynski 87 100 Juan Uribe 70 81 Pablo Ozuna 68 63 Frank Thomas 156 162 Timo Perez 74 81

Pitchmen

2005 ERA+ Career Mark Buehrle 176 125 Freddy Garcia 128 114 Jon Garland 134 101 J. Contreras 106 95 O. Hernandez 93 116 Luis Vizcaino 102 93 D. Hermanson 296 102 Cliff Politte 445 101 Neal Cotts 159 80 S. Takatsu 88 213 Damaso Marte 161 150

I'm surprised. ::rolly::
8 underperforming hitters and 9 overperforming pitchers?  couldn't be.

Yep
I can guarantee that's not a miscalculation. Just go look at thier regular OPS and ERA marks vs. their career.

How to evaluate the bullpen guys?
I see Luis Vizcaino with a 102 ERA+, but he hasn't been above average, has he?

And I see Damaso Marte with a 161 ERA+, but he (like Viz) hasn't been that good, has he?  How do we evaluate the pitchers?  FIP?  I can't find 'P' anywhere -- which measures the Pressure of the situation, it was in The Hardball Times' Bullpen Book.

FIP is Fielding Independent Pitching, right?  Anyways, Marte has a 4.47 FIP, and Vizcaino has a 5.00 FIP.  That sounds about right, no?
