Cubs/Sox Series...

Judging by the name I believe you see who I am rooting for.. however that is really neither here nor there.. I am looking forward to this series for a few reasons..

1- I would like to see the Sox on an up close and  personal basis. This is in your house. Using your rules.  Jim Thome has looked damn solid this year and PK has also looked good. The Cubs have no sluggers to speak of anymore. So the Sox will have to hit the ball out of the yard to win.. Thome the last week has been struggling.. (.182 prior to last nights game)

2- If the Sox starting rotation woes will continue.  You get Jose Conteras back on Sunday who has to this point been the most effective Sox starter.

Also the Pitching Matchup of Buehrle/ Maddux should be very entertaining.. Both are very solid control type pitchers who aren't going to blow anyone away but will work very fast.

3- I want to see if the chemistry is still there for the Sox.

Trading away Aaron Roward in my opinion could end up being the move to regret in 2006.. Not only did you give away a very solid LH pitching prospect (Gio Gonzalez) You also gave away the heart of the Sox OF.  The deal of Rowand is like the deal of Loduca by the Dodgers in 04.  It destroyed the chemistry.

Anyhow, I wish the Sox the best of luck in the series. And to be quite honest I see you taking two out of the three games.  The Cubs are slumping coming in. Friday and Saturday will go to the Sox.. Sunday should go back to the Cubs.  Game- Time is in 2 hours.. Best of Luck

the chemistry
is still there. sorry.

you're right about the starting pitching.

if you have no sluggers, then i don't see why we need to hit the ball out of the park to win. we do pretty well playing ozzieball, remember?

Say, how do you like "Neifi Ball"?
The question I didn't see asked by the press:

Why was Neifi even allowed to bat, let alone bunt?

Even Maddux would've been a better choice than  the .200/0 HR/7 RBI Perez.

It should be called Bill Veeck Park!

i'm curious
what's the consensus on whether maddux should bat for himself today?

Probably
And Dusty could use one of his five 2nd basemen as extra bullpen arms.

cubsfan
i'd recommend watching the games before commenting on them. i'm not going to sit here and tell you all about the cubs because i don't watch them regularly.

as mentioned, we were relying too much on the long ball in the tampa series. we left quite a few guys in scoring position when just a single would have gotten it done (or moving him over and sac fly). i think we'll get back to basics a bit more today. ozzie seemed pretty pissed that we weren't playing fundamentally sound baseball basically throughout the entire series.

I watched the Sox to know that
when Thome and PK slump the Sox do poorly..

well
too bad knoerko isn't slumping and dye is hot so he's picking up any slack from thome. good teams don't go into offensive comas when one player is out or slumping.

D-Rays have voodoo working on us in Tampa,
but against the Cubs we scored 5 of our 6 runs without the aid of the Home Run

Yep
our boys can't really do much without that long ball.

'Specially with Ozzie all cracked out and yellin' "Squeeze bunt!! Squeeze bunt!!" all the time, even when we're not at bat.

Ah! So that's what he's saying...
I couldn't figure it out, much like AJ...
It should be called Bill Veeck Park!

Is this Plaschke?
The deal of Rowand is like the deal of Loduca by the Dodgers in 04.  It destroyed the chemistry.

Does anyone who understands baseball really believe this?  That LA team won the division and LoDuca was a worthless piece of crap in FLA.

I like Rowand as a person, but Thome is a better character guy them him, plus he doesn't ground into 6-4-3 DP's every at bat.

The LA team
was up in the standings by about 10 games before the Loduca deal and ended up winning it by about 3.. there is a large difference 8 games they were a much worse team after the deal than before it

hmm
i really don't see much parallel between the two trades. thome + anderson is an upgrade over everett/thomas + rowand. plus, thome is a leader that neither carl or frank were. rowand's a good guy in the clubhouse but he surely wasn't essential to chemistry. there's definitely no chemistry problem here as anyone who follows the team already knows.

LA
They went 34-27 after the trade and lost to a vastly superior Cardinals team in the NLDS.  The Giants just went 35-22 in that time thanks to everyone's least favorite player to make it close.

by the way
we have the second best record in baseball. i can't say we've fallen off.
