ouch
Sciatic nerve is not good news.  I believe this will be a re-occuring problem.  With that said, I could be wrong, someone here might know more than I do.

Gregg made Chicago look silly when he pitched in relief in the Weaver game (IIRC).

well put.  I haven't dealt with a sciatic nerve patient in Trauma Center yet.  Although I have been using "Healing Touch" to cure the new biomedical warfare virus, "GUILT".

My dad had Sciatic nerve problems for quite awhile, although he is a senior citizen and his shoulder was reconstructed.

more first rate info
from my girlfriend via gmail chat -

Molly: sciatic nerve is in the spine/lower back and usually this happens with pregnant women, that the nerve gets pitched and it sends shooting pain down your leg
when Jess had she would just scream
scared the heck out of us girls in the office

So there you go, Jose Contreras is pregnant.

Hey hey! The starting lineup, and I get to witnes
it in person.  Hopefully the rain holds off enough to get this one in without any ridiculous delays.

Since I know nothing about sciatic nerve damage, I'll withhold from sweating, panicking, and shaking in fear.

by chrome on May 9, 2006 4:18 PM CDT up reply actions

sciatica manageable...
...had it for years.  Even while pitching in college.  Remedies include stretching, soft-tissue massage (with no happy finish), chiro...or worse come to worse, epidural injections. No biggie for a MLB player.  The pain's more irritating than restrictive.  The side of your leg numbs up, your lower back tightens, but very treatable.

Freddy to the rescue!
Perhaps Jose can get some pre-game "medicine" from Freddy.

by tailgater on May 9, 2006 4:37 PM CDT up reply actions

Yep...
I also had some problems with mine when I was catching in high school.  It can be dealt with but it also can be a really pesky persistant injury.

Contreras
Has anyone heard about the results of his MRI?

I read that problems with the sciatic nerve are often caused by a herniated disc, and that could effect Jose a lot.

See here... http://www.spine-health.com/topics/cd/sciatica/sciatic_nerve01.html

I've heard updates that
he has a bulging disc. So yeah, this is somewhat serious.

Though I seriously doubt it's going to be as troublesome as Hermanson's, partially because Contreras seems to be so forthcoming with his nagging pains.

Haeger will not make the White Sox. There I said it. Hawk was saying that he's got a shot during yesterday's broadcast, but he's just not a fit for this organization. With our rotation, and McCarthy waiting in the wings, there's just not much need for a knuckleballer. That doesn't mean we should stop paying attention to Haeger though. If anything, we should root for him to play above his head this year, as he'll probably be used in a trade package at some point. Heager could really have some value to a team like the Pirate or Royals as a league average innings eater.

News: Manager Mike Scioscia said Sunday that Kevin Gregg will remain in the rotation to start Tuesday against Chicago.
Impact: Scioscia chose Gregg over Hector Carrasco because Carrasco "will have a more prominent role in the bullpen." The matchup against the White Sox is not a good one, so stay away if you can."

The Sox are one of the best offenses in baseball
It's not hard to figure out why a fantasy notes section would advise shying away from using your starter against them.

300 innings is much more indicative of true talent than the 3 innings that Gregg pitched against us earlier this season.

Contreras and Dye
If Contreras hits the DL for a month or so, it will be quite easier to handle if JD is batting 5th and not AJ.  As well as AJ is hitting, he isn't even close to Dye's production.  I'd really like to see this lineup somedays when Pods is out:

Iguchi
Gload
Thome
Kong
Dye
Crede
AJ
Uribe

I mean, I think everyone on this site is happy about the Thome deal.  With that said, I'm still going to track how the guys we gave away are doing for 2 reasons:

1.)  To see how the deal is working out for the otherside.

2.)  I had an interest in the players when they were on the Sox (especially Rowand & Gio), so just because they are in a different organization doesn't mean they dropped off the face of the planet.  I'm still interested in how they are doing.

by CWSKeith on May 9, 2006 8:53 PM CDT reply actions

Yeah
the first few innings, he was getting hit hard, but he was pitching more like we were used to seeing last season.

Since then, he's settled down and given the Angels nothin'. Of course, he is being helped out a little by the flailing Dallas McPherson and a the rest of the impatient Halo's
