3B Coaching

Greetings to all from NY! I am a former Chicagoan and long time White Sox fan.

Is it just my imagination or has Joey Cora made a number of bad judgement calls as 3B coach? Last night Konerko probably would have been thrown out except for the cutoff. I also seem to remember that Joey waved Thome home a couple of weeks ago but JT decided to put the brakes on and hold up himself. I know there are a few other instances as well that I cannot specifically recall at the moment.

Personally I am a little uneasy with his decisions to send runners so far this year. Maybe I'm just a nervous Nellie!

JOEY IS FINE
yes, a few questionable calls this season but you cannot argue with his success rate. He seems to have a knack for advancing the runners. Perhaps he saw something with the Cincy set up and allowed Paulie to score. Overall, I couldn't be happier with the personnel we have on this ball club. Ozzie and KW have mixed together a delicious recipe of Sox players and coaches. I am not sure any other manager or combination brings Chicago the trophy we are currently enjoying. Everyone seems to have a winning mentality and look to support one another. Quite simply, I agree with you that you are a Nervous Nelly. My advice: just sit back and enjoy another winning season (Chicago is a great sports town with a long history).

he's no wendell kim
you'll notice that most of his decisions turn out to be good ones. he forces teams to make a play; i think too many coaches take a look and see that it's possible that a good throw will get the runner out. the problem with that thinking is that most outfielders cannot make a good throw to the plate with any consistency.

He's definitely no wavin' Wendall
I think Joey picks his spots so that only a good or perfect throw will get the runner. I've only seen a few occasions where the runner was out by a lot or thrown out by a poor throw.

Joey makes me nervous...
...every once in a while, but I agree with his philosophy of being aggressive and forcing the other guys to execute. Numerous times already this season, including with Timo in left last night (with a strong arm), we have forced the action and an outfielder has gotten jumpy and not fielded the ball cleanly or made an awful throw. The only really poor call I remember Joey making was when Mack got thrown out on a ball to right when Blake had moved WAYYYYY in.
