That fastball tops out at about 93. Hard biting curve around 81. A little faster, tighter breakingball, we'll call it a slider at about 84. And one changeup at about 81-82. No gyroballs.

Regarding Matsuzaka, I bet the Sox are on his radar for next year. I'm sure he's seen or heard about the success that Shingo had in his short time with the Sox (unfortunately not the second year), and obviously Tadahito is the other example. I know that Seattle and New York also have the same appeal.

I know that the Sox wouldn't seem to be in the market for a SP next offseason, but he might be more appealing than Zito. Then again, he's probably going to get overpaid quite a bit -- doesn't the team that signs him also have to pay a fee to the Japanese team/league as well?

There's also two schools of thought regarding his arm. One is that his workload has been so tough in Japan that his arm is bound to get injured sooner rather than later. The other is that because his workload is so tough, and because his workout regimin is presumably intense, that he'll be able to handle the stress put on his arm.

I wish I could speak about his mechanics. Are Matsuzaka's mechanics what you would call easy and repeatable? Fluid?

Up for free agency yet? Or is he thinking about "posting" soon? And what would the bid be to get him?

Or you just filling time on the off day... Either way I enjoyed the vids. Broken leg for the guy that flipped over the guard rail at Le Tour.

Matsuzaka

was told that he would be posted if he 'had a good season.' Well he is pretty much the best pitcher in Japan again, so I think it should be classified as a good season.

As for his price, I would think it would cost more than Seattle paid for Ichiro. If I recall Ichiro cost $10-12M just for the rights to negotiate with him.

It cost the Mariners $11 million on the bid for Ichiro then another $15 million to sign him.

I would pay it. I would expect the bid to be about $15 million just to negotiate. I think that would still be worth it. The Sox have sold enough of those fitted World Series champs hats at $30 a pop to fund it.
