I'll give you my abbreviated recap.

Freddie Garcia showed why the mental aspect of pitching is more important than the physical one. He was cruising along when Mack and Cintron failed to field a high pop up. After that play Freddie, visibly upset, began a string of 4 2 out hits. When the smoke cleared the Sox 1 - 0 lead was a 3 - 1 deficit.

Now as its been pointed out, the Sox bats once again turned into buckets and bailed out another sinking pitching performance. And once again the leaks were too many to keep the game afloat.

Riske allows a run.
Garland allows Cotts runners to score and tosses in one of his own for good measure.

The final nail in this coffin of a game was when Becket loaded the bases and Thome, Konerko and Dye fail to do squat. You could hear the groan all the way up here in Rogers Park.

Four times....

we've loaded the bases in the last two games and come away with two whole runs. I'm pretty sure that three times the bases were loaded with less than two outs. That's REAL bad.

While Politte, 32, might not look good in the Sox' bullpen now, a half-dozen major-league scouts attended his rehab appearances with Class AAA Charlotte, where he posted a 1.93 ERA, allowing one run in 4 2/3 innings. With a high number of National League teams in the wild-card hunt, Politte might be an upgrade over some team's existing bullpen stock. His playoff experience with the Sox last season might be a bonus, and a change of scenery might help revive his pitching. The Sox would seek prospects in return, shaping their plans for the future while opening a spot for Dustin Hermanson, who might be able to return this season after back problems, or a prospect such as Sean Tracey.
