It seems like Radke is the perfect pitcher for Iguchi to do some damage off of.  Coming into tonight, I think DJ said that he is something like 8-for-19 off Radke.

0-for-2 so far, with weak contact on both outs.

Bartlett is a little better
He is actually a decent prospect, or was, I should say.  His OBP was something like .390 in the minor leagues.

To be exact, Jason Tyner's OPS in the minors was .725.  Punto's?  .705.  Bartlett, OTOH, was at .782.

What I'm trying to say is, with Punto and Tyner, these are two players who are getting extremely lucky right now.  And I really hope that it doesn't continue.

It's the Metrodome.  They're stupid.  I'm guessing it's intended to be advertising.  It seems they think that a giant jug of milk will remind Twins fans that such a product exists as milk, should they wish to purchase it.  Don't ask too many questions; these are the people that thought a big grey cement box would be a good place for a ballgame.

it lived up to the hype
obviously don't go in expecting a "good" movie in the traditional sense. the plot is flimsy and, when they do occasionally try to advance the plot, it just gets in the way. if you like samuel l. jackson and want to see a bunch of snakes go wild on a plane killing people, it's definitely worth it. i'd recommend going to see it when the theater is filled. it's definitely best as a communal experience. it's also really funny - and i don't mean unintentionally. the jokes actually work.

when Thome held at 3rd - beats rundown back to 1st while Jim scores.

by randy77 on Aug 19, 2006 8:15 PM CDT up reply actions

So Thome's on second,
AJ singles, Thome held at third.  AJ goes too far, gets caught in rundown.  Twins botch the rundown when Punto holds off on the throw too Morneau for a second too long, and AJ gets back to first just fine.  Thome advances to home during the rundown, and the Sox get a run where nobody had any right to expect they would.  It was a textbook rundown.

by Dongfang Hong on Aug 19, 2006 8:15 PM CDT up reply actions

What I meant was
it was a textbook rundown situation.  AJ was stranded and it should have been a free out.  Instead Punto botched it.  Sorry I was vague.

Nice umpiring there.
So does he go on our 25-man roster now?

by Dongfang Hong on Aug 19, 2006 8:22 PM CDT reply actions

he can have pods spot
he did a better job defending the line than scott does on most nights

by james@lifeinthecell on Aug 19, 2006 8:24 PM CDT up reply actions

that saved a run
i'd be pissed if i was a twins fan

by randy77 on Aug 19, 2006 8:22 PM CDT reply actions

what a break
god is smiling down on the sox in the dome tonight

by longdrive on Aug 19, 2006 8:23 PM CDT reply actions

Hahahahaha
Off the ump!  Man are we getting the breaks in this game.  A welcome respite from the years of the Twinkiedome being a House of Horrors, with every bizarre thing going the Twins way...

Was Punto golfing there?
Nice swing there.  Nice job Thornton, Garland, 3rd-base umpire, and Fortune.

by Dongfang Hong on Aug 19, 2006 8:26 PM CDT reply actions

Tiggers
have runners on 1+2 with 1 out in the 9th.  Pudge roiding his way to the plate.

by Bull Pain on Aug 19, 2006 8:28 PM CDT reply actions

M. Young
had all the time in the world to turn a 6-3 DP and end it and pulled Teixeira off the bag.

by Bull Pain on Aug 19, 2006 8:31 PM CDT up reply actions

Thames gone
Otsuka gave him no chance.  Tiggers lose.

by Bull Pain on Aug 19, 2006 8:32 PM CDT up reply actions

That's the problem with relying on Texans.
Still, it worked out in the end, it seems, and the Tigers continue slip-slidin' away.

by Dongfang Hong on Aug 19, 2006 8:32 PM CDT up reply actions

Mack
should be starting in LF

by randy77 on Aug 19, 2006 8:28 PM CDT reply actions

kind of a break there too
Why didn't Morneau go to second? Mack wasn't that close to second.

by james@lifeinthecell on Aug 19, 2006 8:32 PM CDT reply actions

First guessing
I go with Thornton in the 9th...

Mauer - Cuddy - Morneau due up.

sounds good to me
on another note: gooch hasn't hit anything lately that's below the belt

Looks like we got Bobby
Let's hope it's a steady night.  Still, feelin' real good.

by Dongfang Hong on Aug 19, 2006 8:34 PM CDT up reply actions

Using the closer for closer's sake
I'm torn on that school of thought.
But this situation screams for Thornton to be used.

by james@lifeinthecell on Aug 19, 2006 8:37 PM CDT reply actions

Yeah, I don't really like
"Save Situation = Closer," but I don't see anything bad happening here.

by Dongfang Hong on Aug 19, 2006 8:39 PM CDT up reply actions

bobby
has struck out cuddyer 4 of the five times he faced him. morneau is also 0-6 against jenks. i think jenks is the call.

by larry on Aug 19, 2006 8:40 PM CDT reply actions

I think that individual matchups are useless
when you're only talking a handful of at-bats, but I don't think Jenks is ever a bad call.

by Dongfang Hong on Aug 19, 2006 8:41 PM CDT up reply actions

not to mention
that mauer has abused thornton.

by larry on Aug 19, 2006 8:42 PM CDT up reply actions

well
let's be real honest. there are a lot of pitchers he has abused this year. i just remember some RBIs he's gotten against matt.

by larry on Aug 19, 2006 8:54 PM CDT up reply actions

Bobby
Has always been better against lefties.  Righties have actually done a lot of damage against him this year.

by Bull Pain on Aug 19, 2006 8:40 PM CDT reply actions

Two down!
And Crede deserves a gold glove.

by Dongfang Hong on Aug 19, 2006 8:41 PM CDT reply actions

And the Sox Win!
And the Tigers, Twins, and Red Sox lose.

Some nights, things work out well.

by Dongfang Hong on Aug 19, 2006 8:43 PM CDT reply actions

sox win!!!
nice game jon!

Agreed
Just got back from dinner with James' wife.  3 comments:
  1.  Screw everyone that said we'd be swept and would have 13-4 Garland lose to 12-8 Radke hands down, no argument.
  2.  I obviously picked a horrible time last night to defend Garcia - IF his reported quotes are accurate he ought to be benched/traded.  And if Ozzie defends it he has lost my undying respect.
  3.  As James said, Garland is THE ace.
So the worst we can do is leave Minny with the lead - could be worse.  Keep the faith, boys - WE ARE THE DEFENDING CHAMPS.

i love being wrong
well we didn't get swept.   a gem of a game by jon and some terrible defense by the twins.  bobby in the 9th got me a little nervous, but he got through it, thanks to joe "gold glove" crede.

since my predictions seem to be so off lately, here's one.  we lose tomorrow.  big.
