More Oneli Perez
OK, maybe I'm hopping on the bandwagon a little bit prematurely, but I wanted to continue my efforts to generate some discussion of this guy.
In a previous diary I posted his filthy numbers at low and advanced A ball this season.
Well, this week he was called up to AA Birmingham. He made a midweek debut and pitched 2 scoreless innings allowing 2 hits, a BB, and striking out three. Nice start....
Anyway, tonight he made a mockery of Jacksonville hitters in a tight game. He pitched 3 1/3 innings allowing 1 hit, walking none, AND....striking out 6.
I realize he's 22, and has just 2 outings in AA, but to dominate in the manner that he has dominated is pretty exciting.
A September callup? Highly unlikely, but ya never know.
Stay tuned...

Of course, neither Sweeney nor Fields played, so...
That was a great deal...
Does that make him
Cumulative numbers
His stats across 3 levels:
4 W 1 L 0.81 ERA 66.2 IP 44 H 14BB 80K .179 OAA
in AA 5 1/3 IP 1BB 9K
This guy has just completely dominated every level.
Update from 8/22
Add another 3 great innings.....
I'm glad to see
I don't really believe there's such a thing as relief prospects, since most relievers are failed starters. There's really no point in following relievers below AA, but the Sox have had a couple of interesting guys from the low minors this year. Perez and Jason Rice, and they're loading them both up on IP in the last month. Rice has to fix his control, but he's got intriguing H/9 and K/9 numbers.
