Stupid question (Non-baseball)
I'm getting my house in Bridgeport re-roofed in the next week or two. Do you tip the roofers? If so, how much is appropriate? I was thinking $100/person for each of the guys that are doing the roofing, but not tipping the owner of the company. The owner is a well-regarded contractor, though, so I'll probably use him for other stuff in the next few years--if that means anything. Update [2006-9-15 15:39:43 by BridgeportJoe]: Forgot to mention--it's a complete tear-off and re-roof. Estimate is roughly $5k, which was cheaper than we expected.

Had our roof...
However recently had a brick paver patio put in and the workers received tips for an outstanding job. Also we provided lunch and cold water. And putting in a patio I guess would be a similar labor intense job.
I think $100 is spot on for a tip, especially if you think the work is worthy and I'm sure it adds incentive for when they return to do more work. I don't think there is a proper etiquette, in fact I would think it does not happen more than it does. So I'm sure they would appreciate it, as well as some cold water and the like. But for a contractor, I don't think I would ever feel obligated to.
