no mack and no pods. celebrate.
also thome sitting another one out is smart given that a lefty is on the mound.  i'd like to see stewart in the lineup, as i imagine he could at least match old man sandy's .167.  but what the hell.  go sox.

by longdrive on Sep 2, 2006 5:47 PM CDT reply actions

Much better
But I've still a half bottle of vodka left from last night.

Just in case.

Good feeling about this one, though.

by Robbie on Sep 2, 2006 5:50 PM CDT reply actions

I have good feelings about this one too.
Buehrle will shut the Royals down tonight, even with Old Man catching.

by hawksview on Sep 2, 2006 5:57 PM CDT reply actions

Brian Anderson in the 7 hole!
Wow.
Also I'm guessing Paulie is starting to have a "Big Hurt-like" affinity for hitting as a 1st baseman as opposed to a DH, hence Gload getting the nod at DH tonight.

by james@lifeinthecell on Sep 2, 2006 6:06 PM CDT reply actions

Why not put Gload at RF
and Dye at DH?

Just a little tweak to the lineup.  Otherwise, looks good.  Gload is the best hitter off the bench.

JD strikes out?  Haven't seen that much lately.

by hawksview on Sep 2, 2006 6:14 PM CDT reply actions

Is something wrong with the WGN gun?
Not only did JD strike out, but he did it on three pitches, all at 87 mph according to the WGN gun...OUCH.

Three K's. Perez has his number.

by wsoxfan72 on Sep 2, 2006 7:17 PM CDT up reply actions

not a good start
i agree with whoever said dye should DH today and make gload play right.  he looked bad on that 3 pitch strikeout.  must be hard carrying this team on his back all the time.

by longdrive on Sep 2, 2006 6:18 PM CDT reply actions

buehrle laying out there.
good effort, even though he couldn't get it.

by hawksview on Sep 2, 2006 6:18 PM CDT reply actions

wow...
what is Grudzy's career avg. against Buehrle?  He's hit him hard this year (all sox starters actually).

by hawksview on Sep 2, 2006 6:19 PM CDT reply actions

Darn...
Teahen looks like he'll be a good one. (already is)

by hawksview on Sep 2, 2006 6:20 PM CDT reply actions

yeah well
so were Damon, Dye, Ibanez and Beltran and they didn't stick around very long in KC

he'll be an Angel or Red Sox or Brave in the next 3 years

by james@lifeinthecell on Sep 2, 2006 6:22 PM CDT up reply actions

They do have Gordon right behind him.
If they can't move anyone, he'll have to leave.  They have some nice young players.

by hawksview on Sep 2, 2006 6:25 PM CDT reply actions

Well, this typical Buehrle start to a ballgame
has made the decision easy...it's ND football at 7 with very very very occasional checkups on the Sox.

by wsoxfan72 on Sep 2, 2006 6:56 PM CDT up reply actions

Ozuna was backing it up perfectly.
So I think he would have gotten a double.

besides the lesser pitching
that's probably the biggest difference between this year and last, the first inning scoring and getting ahead early

by james@lifeinthecell on Sep 2, 2006 7:04 PM CDT up reply actions

I wonder how much bad defense in
left and center have contributed to the lesser pitching.

mark's done. we have the arms in the pen now to shorten the hook.

by larry on Sep 2, 2006 7:35 PM CDT reply actions

yeah, he should
he kinda coasted on it, and his angle to the ball was wrong

by james@lifeinthecell on Sep 2, 2006 7:41 PM CDT up reply actions

from where his mitt was
and from where the ball landed, one step to the right and he woulda had it

maybe he didn't want to take his eye off it, but he still coasted somewhat, maybe he wasn't used to the lights at Kaufman

by james@lifeinthecell on Sep 2, 2006 7:45 PM CDT up reply actions

you got part of it right
the trajectory of the ball was one of the tougher ones for a CF. i wouldn't want to be looking at that sky, either.

What an idiot. Even if JD is 0-4, you don't take the bat out of his hands. Dumb.

by wsoxfan72 on Sep 2, 2006 8:37 PM CDT reply actions

that's textbook baseball

No

by wsoxfan72 on Sep 2, 2006 8:42 PM CDT up reply actions

that was a completely nonsensical reply
what's my specialty? textbook baseball? tactics? or am i somehow "specializing" in the dusty baker school?

tatics, dusty baker school and brutalizing women.

hey hawksview
do you know how many points ND was giving in the game?

by james@lifeinthecell on Sep 2, 2006 8:45 PM CDT reply actions

great win but...
mack should not have been stealing on that pitch to dye.  not when he's got a hitting streak on the line.

otherwise, great game.  good pitching, good defense (other than that hit that brian missed) and some timely hitting.

c'mon big game freddy.

by longdrive on Sep 2, 2006 8:50 PM CDT reply actions

what's more important
trying to win or some hitting streak? we needed another run with the way our pitchers have been and tactics (and obviously the numbers) say you steal there to put the guy in scoring position.

by larry on Sep 2, 2006 8:52 PM CDT up reply actions

JD will tell yah its the win
and actually it's not a bad call trying to get into scoring position with two outs

by james@lifeinthecell on Sep 2, 2006 8:55 PM CDT up reply actions

Everybody is entitled to an opinion,
but not all opinions are created equal. You have got to try to get into scoring position with two outs there. JD had plenty of chances to continue his streak, and left all four of them walking back to the dugout with his bat on his shoulder. Unless you had JD pegged to hit safely until sometime next May, the streak meant nothing.

by james@lifeinthecell on Sep 2, 2006 8:52 PM CDT up reply actions

kind of a weak amount of cream, though. you could tell throughout the interview that something was going on because crede's eyes kept looking around.

by larry on Sep 2, 2006 8:54 PM CDT up reply actions

now that's cool
JD could be sulking cuz he was 0-4 with the golden sombrero and had his hit-streak ended with the CS by Mack and yet he's still joking around.

That's a great attitude, and it makes me feel way better about what's going on in the clubhouse.
