White Sox @ Twins -- Garcia vs. Bonser

Freddy Garcia (16-9, 4.65) vs. Boof Bonser (7-5, 4.15)

Could this be Garcia's final start in a White Sox uniform? He's looked strangely useful in his last 4 starts. Is a good performance tonight against a team fighting for a division title and home field advantage throughout the playoffs, combined with his last 4 starts, enough to convince you that Garcia will be back on track next season?

No, not enough to convince me
But for the sake of Sox fans and Kenny, how about Freddy goes out and throws a two-hit shutout tonight, ehh?  That would bring his ERA down to 4.46 or so.  Okay, I'll give him some leeway; he can give up one earned run, but he's still gotta throw nine innings.  That'd put his season ERA at 4.50.

I won't ever hate Garcia.  There were a lot of "I don't care" moments this year, and a lot of teammate showing-up by Freddy, but he was the guy who pitched a brilliant game in the World Series last year.  And for that, he'll always hold a special place in my heart (:tear).

Best case scenario
Garcia dominates the Twins in a big game for them, which drives up his trade value and gives KW a bigger haul when he trades him. I'm not usre if Garcia really is the best pitcher ofr the Sox to trade, but his indifferent yet peevish attitude just irks me.

by hitlesswonder on Sep 29, 2006 5:42 PM CDT up reply actions

Garcia's future
Another dominant game against a hot playoff team should make KW's decision about the starting rotation for 2007 even more difficult. Given the fact that Garcia lost velocity after the 2005 playoff run and the WBC, but now seems to have regained some of it after pitching threw some arm problems , makes it difficult to accurately evaluate Garcia. In July he looked finished and unlikely to get the Sox much in an offseason trade. I do know I trust a healthy Freddy more then Vazquez. I guess the big question for KW will be weighing what offers are made for Vazquez and Garcia.  The one that nets the best package likely gets moved. I don't think the other SP's are available.

good freddy/bad freddy
my woman's family is from Seattle, so I was familiar with her pops utter disdain for Freddy Garcia a few years ago. When he came to the Sox I was happy, but so was her old man that he was leaving town. This season I started to see just what he was talking about as early as March in ST. Her dad said the Sox would lose (to the M's, and they did) because its always the bad Freddy when hes in attendance. Well, it was bad Freddy for the majority of the season after a decent start. I dont think a bad game here sends him packing though, since he has close ties to Ozzie. Unfortunately, I fear we're stuck with Joey Cora for the same reasons.

I think we know what Ozzie thinks of BA
It's a good thing BA didn't buy property in Chicago. He's so gone after this season...it's too bad really.

I hope so, too
Really, I was a lot more down on BA before this season. Having actually seen him play more now, I think he can be a plus big league player.

by hitlesswonder on Sep 29, 2006 9:17 PM CDT up reply actions

if KW deals BA
it will be the stupidest move ever.  BA has proven in the second half of the season he can be an average-to-above-average hitter and his defense is obviously above average.  it would be absolutely retarded to get rid of him. i think the right move would be for KW or someone to sit down with ozzie, slap him in the face and tell him to drop whatever personal bullshit he has with BA, because BA is a good player.

I think crede's last non-HR RBI was sept. 13
on freddy's near-perfect game (yahoo)

so he needs 2 3-run homers...

Amazing...
As much as I don't like Freddy, I'm glad to see him pitch better. Up that trade value. Plus the Sox beat the Twins and I like it when that happens.
