Inferiority complex
It's nice to see that they had no problem taking two out of three from the Royals like we had...oh.

No trouble?
It was 2-1!  I don't think yoy can slice the margin of victory any closer.  Though it was a "W", though it may not have counted for some of you guys who think you get style points for margin of victory.

So, we have to take care of business.  I like our chances tonight.  Tonight.  One game at a time.  "We got tonight, babe.  Why don't you staaaaay."

Or are you talking about the tattered pitching staff?

by winningugly on Sep 4, 2006 7:46 PM CDT up reply actions

the secret to beating us
is to make sure you have a nothing pitcher that gets clobbered by other teams/  They shut us down every time.  We looked better against SAntana than Bonser, Redman, Hernandez, Perez and now Taveras.  Perhaps second time through will be the charm.

he is going to pinch hit gload for anderson
and move mack to CF.  then he'll let pods bat for himself.  becaus that's the kind of genius ozzie is.

Anyone else
selfishly wanna see this game go into the 11th so we can see what Ozzie does with Sweeney

Gload hitting for Anderson, I have to think that Sweeney will be in CF next half inning.

damn it.
need a good half inning from our pitcher here.

by hawksview on Sep 4, 2006 9:11 PM CDT reply actions

Pods/Mack/Gload
worst OF defense ever.

Sweeney is solid in the field, and he's the DH.

sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That didn't take long
McCarthy sure takes a dump on any late-inning situation he sees.

we can't even win games jon pitches anymore.
even when he only gives up 1 run.  put the tombstone up cheat.

the worst part of all...i think ozzie is putting bmac in pressure situations on purpose, just to show us that he is right for not making him a starting pitcher.  it's the mentality of a 5 year old, but that's honestly what i think.

by longdrive on Sep 4, 2006 9:17 PM CDT reply actions

same thing
has crossed my mind.

by watershed on Sep 4, 2006 9:19 PM CDT up reply actions

glad i'm not alone.
seriously, he just pitched yesterday and got the loss and ozzie throws him out there again.  put in boone.  put in riske.  neither one of them have played.

ozzie said that bmac was no cy young.  now he's out to prove it.

by longdrive on Sep 4, 2006 9:22 PM CDT up reply actions

Huh?
Wait, you McCarthy-is-God types bitch that Ozzie doesn't put him in enough, that he needs to be put in more, that he should start -- and then you blame Ozzie for his absolute inability to succeed out of the pen right now?

by Gregory Pratt @ South Side Sox on Sep 4, 2006 9:21 PM CDT up reply actions

don't even start gregory.
i just had to sit through a bad game, isn't that pain enough?

there's a difference between pitching out of the pen in pressure situations and starting a game with score tied 0-0.  bmac has never been a reliever before and it's obviously not his strong suit.  just like none of us expect bobby jenks to be a brilliant starter.  some work better out of the pen...some work better in the starting rotation.

by longdrive on Sep 4, 2006 9:25 PM CDT up reply actions

Conversation!
Of course I know that.

But everyone's bitching at Ozzie for putting in a pitcher to pitch and for the pitcher's failure to execute?

I've said it a ton of times. Brandon McCarthy is a pitcher who will give up a ton of homeruns in his career. He's good for a number three starter spot at best, and probably four or five.

It was a mistake to send him out there in the bottom of an inning against a powerful club; it's a bigger mistake to have expected him to have done well.

But it's inane to bitch and whine about Ozzie "setting him up to fail." My balls he was setting him up to fail.

PS:
I sat through a bad game, too, you know.

by Gregory Pratt @ South Side Sox on Sep 4, 2006 9:30 PM CDT up reply actions

It's the 85 Bears
Been saying it all along.  Ditka's idiocy and don't question me attitude killed the 86 team.  Same thing here.  Ozzie has been awful and it looks like last year was just a lucky coincidence in that the rest of the AL was in poor shape.  This year will turn out just like 2001-2004.

by Bull Pain on Sep 4, 2006 9:20 PM CDT reply actions

brian anderson isn't an auto out.
he's had a couple of bad games here, but he's been solid for a couple months now.

uribe i won't defend.  and pods.  fuck pods.

by longdrive on Sep 4, 2006 9:20 PM CDT reply actions

Maybe Ozzie will do something if we are more...
then a few games out of the playoffs...ie in a few days

by koolmo3 on Sep 4, 2006 9:21 PM CDT reply actions

Well, that just takes the cake. I hope my two week
vacation will bring even a fraction of the usual "Cheat goes away" luck to the Sox. In order to actually enjoy my time away from the office and not suffer some sort of nervous breakdown, I'm going to avoid computers and TVs at all cost. But I will still be praying.

Lefty with a high ERA tommorrow. He's 0-3 on the year , but somehow I gotta think the Sox will make it 1-3.

by Gangstalicious on Sep 4, 2006 9:30 PM CDT reply actions

this game
was like a dagger in our heart. a contender cannot lose games like this. we can point to the bullpen but where are the runs? 2 runs against what the sox ran out against us tonight is pitiful.

by larry on Sep 4, 2006 9:36 PM CDT reply actions

Agreed
The offense was simply terrible against one of the worst pitching staffs in the AL.

It's hard to single out one problem, but the lack of OBP from the 1 &2 spots is a big hole right now.

by hitlesswonder on Sep 4, 2006 10:07 PM CDT up reply actions

no, i think you can single out one problem
and you pretty much did it. pods. i honestly think that if we fix that black hole, it's worth a run a game. tonight, that meant the game.

by larry on Sep 4, 2006 10:12 PM CDT up reply actions

to amplify
the reason i don't include iguchi in the problem is because, while his OBP isn't stunning, he's got decent power and, when pods does his occasional impression of being a leadoff hitter, iguchi is generally good at getting him over, taking pitches so he can steal, etc. they complemented one another real well last year.
