Best off-season news so far

Mark Gonzales causally mentioned a development that might have significance.

Rafael Santana will oversee the Sox's new Dominican Republic facility in Boca Chica and work in player development under Dave Wilder, the team's senior director of player personnel, who will continue to oversee the Sox's Latin American operations.

Star-divide

I don't care about the job Santana did at Birmingham, but this news indicates the team might be more serious about developing Dominican prospects.  Great.  Now, can we see some changes in Venezuela?

I think Larry said it...
any big changes we see down there won't really 'pay off' for, at the very least, three years.  It's good to see that they're realizing how badly the situation had gotten with their (lack of) Latin American scouting, but it's going to take a while to right this particular ship.

Long overdue
I don't care if it takes five years to show major-league results, I'm just happy that this neglected, necessary part of the player development program is seeing change.

I'm a patient fan when I see improvements in the team's process.  Even if the results don't immediately follow.

longer than three years
you pretty much grab 16 year olds down there. even if we do that tomorrow, unless we sign a miggy or something, it would take 5 or 7 years to really see the results.

at any rate, you have to start sometime. may as well be now.

So folks are concurring:
2010 it is.  Man, I have this thing nailed!
Wait until 2010!

Some of the banners were shown off Tuesday, including those featuring Pres. Barack Obama both before and after his election.

A White Sox World Series Championship banner, signed by pitcher Mark Buehrle, is also being sold, as is a Blackhawks playoff banner signed by Denis Savard and Stan Mikita.

The bidding starts at 12 p.m. Wednesday at Daley Center. Money raised goes to help the Chicago Anti-hunger Federation and the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
