Mike Cameron suspended 25 games for "tainted supplement"

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3088062

The suspension is for a second violation.  Cameron took pains to deny it was for steroids, stating "I never took nothing like that before in my life. That would be 50 games, and that would affect me a whole lot more."

Star-divide

This could be good news for the Sox.  Being out for the first month probably hurts his value in an off-season with a lot of free agent centerfielders.  I wonder if he would accept a bargain one-year deal from the Sox?  Given that his last contact from the Mets was a relative bargain, I wonder how coveted he is by other teams now that he's in his mid-thirties and out for all of April.

I can think of many worse moves that getting Cameron short-term.

Why would we want to taint the org?
C'mon Reinsdorf isn't going to put up with guys getting banned for illegal stimulants. We damn near got rid of freddy because embarrassed the organization by testing positive for blowin bleezy's after the wbc.

Wizard whats your problem with me?
Im sorry I offended your boy toy BA but going into my profile and changing my tag is pretty lame. It is obvious that the sox were not happy with freddy getting caught with thc in his blood stream. Do you have a job? What would your boss say if you failed a drug test? Why would we want cameron anyways... we already had him and obviously he was not the answer. Plus if you have noticed no sox player has yet to be even accused of taking any banned substances so OBVIOUSLY that shit doesn't fly in the club house. At least until that Mitchell report starts naming names.

LOL!
Yeah, sending it to The Cell was a great idea, too.

How long was his tenure with the sox... ? If I remember correctly he was pretty good when he was here so why would we not resign him?

He was here for a year and a half
He was below average, whined about his rotation spot, and was due to make more money at arbitration.

The Sox weren't going to spend $2.5-3M on a whiny, occasionally effective LOOGY who thought he was a starter. That's why he was non-tendered. It had nothing to do with his drug activity.

Pretty good = 5.39 ERA?
He pitched like crap as a starter, then bitched when he was sent to the bullpen, then got hurt.

Now you're just making stuff up.

Cameron
This doesn't have to do with the suspension, but when Cameron was traded, did he leave the Sox on bad terms?  I thought I remember something about him not finding about the trade until he flipped on the television and saw his name on the bottom line, but I'm not sure if that was just a rumor/myth or if was somebody else.

Would love a reduced rate
one year Mike Cameron. Zips projects a .758 OPS in the worst hitting park in baseball. In the cell, even compensating for league change that's gotta be .775 or so. The suspension would give BA a month to prove his worth.

I would give Cameron a 2 year deal...
if he took a discount due to the circumstances.  A .775 OPS from CF with really good defense would be nice.

they'll be the same player
over the next two years. the only difference is that coco is much less of an injury risk due to age. if you get cameron on a good deal - in this market and with his suspension it's certainly possible - he's a very good option. something like 2 years and no more than $13 or 14MM. of course, if he goes erstad/pods on us, hello 450 ABs for jerry.

Why in the world would the sox sign Cameron?
I swear some of you guys here are on crystal meth when you write (cws keith, bhoov). Why would any team that wants to contend next year want to start the first 25 games of the season without their starting CF? Did you really say to give Brian Anderson another chance? If you did not notice, we play in a very tough division. If Brian comes out and he is who we think he is, we will be in a lot of trouble those first 25 games. WHY WE WILL NOT SIGN HIM. The key to winning this division is getting out to a head start especially with cleveland and detroit always starting off so good. Through the trade route or via free agency, we could get a center fielder with out having to wait 25 games to get what your paying for. Playing Brian Anderson would be disastrous to the season. Plus we are not going to sign somebody that is knee deep in steroids. Yea people may have taken them while they we're with us, but I don't think we would sign someone that has a pending suspension... just bad business in my mind. The sox have always wanted to market themselves as a "family oriented" type of entertainment and part of that is having athletes that are role models for the community. Therefore Mike Cameron will not be playing in U.S. Cellular Field.
