White Sox non-tender Andy Gonzalez

[whitesox.com]:

The Chicago White Sox have declined to tender 2008 contracts to infielder Andy Gonzalez and left-handed pitcher Heath Phillips.

...Third baseman Joe Crede remains the club's sole arbitration-eligible player. The White Sox 40-man roster is at 39.

Crede is expected to be tendered a contract.

The Angels have non-tendered 3B Dallas McPherson. Other non-tenders: Mark Prior, Kevin Mench, Matt Wise, Akinori Otsuka, Emil Brown, Willie Harris, Adam Everett, Chad Durbin, Morgan Ensberg, Kiko Calero.

trades
if the sox are able to trade konerko at all, would it be a bad idea to pick up dallas mcpherson to try to play some 1B??? angels non-tendered him according to rotoworld.
anyone else like that idea or is that just dumb?

granted
the konerko trade would be sometime during the season after we see that we arent contending.

Angels found a decent 1B last year
with Casey Kotchman who is one of their few true left-handed hitters.

I doubt they'd take PK for him straight up. I wouldn't.

Where would they put PK? Garret Anderson is DHing now.

Or...
were you talking about trading PK anywhere?

anywhere
but honestly, there arent that many teams in the market for a 1B, even with konerkos relative bargain of a contract.

Um - why wait?
At what point in April will we need to be shown the obvious?

chone figgins and fukodome
I am not sold on those PECOTA and ZiPS projections for either of those players.

For Chone I can see a BAVG of .280-.290 (Last year he hit 34 points higher than any of his previous years!) but a SLG % 30 points higher than last year, and 60+ points higher than any year in his career? If he came into camp 15 pounds of muscle heavier, I'd believe it.

Still, I think Chone is a decent option for the team. His defense is okay, he can play  just about anywhere, and he is great at drawing a walk and would be a fantastic leadoff guy.

Fukodome: I seriously doubt a .900 OPS is in store for him. A .400 OBP? Seriously doubtful, so is a .504 SLG %. I just don't see it happening.

If he posts a .900 OPS in his first year then he will be a steal but I see him ending up 50-100 points lower.

I wonder what it would take to get Figgins here?

Because... you know...
He would be a good fit here.

So I'm the first one to explore this?! For shame!

Chone
is an anaheim angels fan's projection system.

by bhoov on Dec 12, 2007 10:12 PM CST up reply actions

Yeah. I knew that.
So... what would it take to get Chone Figgins of the .830-.840 projected OPS?

This guy has a plan.

i wonder
if he had a failed plan 76-y like KW and then just decided to get old really fast.

If he doesn't improve
then you may wish you forgot him - look at his winter stats. Last I looked they were using him at 2nd and hitting around .240/.250

In the spirit of truth and reconciliation
I initially thought Andy Gonzalez would be a decent backup infielder for 2008. And I was wrong.

but everything he does other than pose goes horribly wrong.

Interesting fact
Willie Harris and Jerry Owens have the exact same career OPS: .639

Yeah but
does Owens have "It's my turn now" on the underside of his hat.

owens played football collegiately. that means he has "It's my turn now" tatooed on his heart and guts.

...now the only remaining players from that '03 season are Kerry Wood, Carlos Zambrano and Aramis Ramirez.

Wow never even noticed that.

Good to go!
Linebrink...check!

Cabrera...check!

OK then, we're done here. All that's left is KW's "There Just Wasn't Anything Out There" speech, so...

See you all in April! First round is on me...Section 103.

Lotta good names there...
The White Sox could improve their bullpen and find an extra outfielder in that group. It's a shame that  doing those things won't turn the White Sox into a good team, but at least those moves could smooth over some of the rough parts.
