Ozzie: BA better run into a wall

Ozzie wants to see Brian Anderson improve his mental approach to the game:

[John Kass]

"He's got to show some more fire, more hunger, that he really wants it. I think he can. But he's got to do it in the spring."

BTW, what's your Super Bowl prediction?

It should be called Bill Veeck Park!

hmmm
bears 75, colts -5. but only if we send out the full-size bears. if it's miniature bears: mini-bears 27, colts 23.

i question whether the colts should even take the field.

and, remember guys: if you want your wife/gf/whatever to be happy on the day of the big game, all you have to say to her is "you're my ditka."

I always say...
"You're my sweetness".

Ahh...
So I see Brian Anderson has caught the "disease" that Jon Garland had the first several years of his career.  He didn't kick or throw things when he didn't do so well, so that equals bad.  If Anderson would just break a bat or punch a wall (or, like I did, a locker), he'd be awesome.

by CWSKeith on Feb 2, 2007 2:00 PM CST reply actions

Even that wouldn't work...
Didn't he show enough aggression and manhood in defense of AJ?
Ozzie doesn't like him 'cuz he made Ozzie look stupid every time he put Rob M. in CF.
Stupido...
It should be called Bill Veeck Park!

Let's be honest...
Anderson needs to do something.  He was absolutely putrid offensively last season.  He may not need to punch walls but he damn sure needs to hit the cages and learn to not swing at low and away breaking crap over and over.

"Why to support the Bears" from Cheat's
parent site, DailyKos:

Some reasons to root for the Bears:

Colts Quarterback Peyton Manning maxed out to Bob Corker in 2006, and was a Bush/Cheney donor in 2004. The Bears? Urlacher's sole reportable contribution was to a Democratic congressman.

The Tomasky argument:
[W]ho would you rather see happy: Barack Obama and Jan Schakowsky or Richard Lugar and Dan Burton?

The Bears are a complete team. Much has been made about the QBs, Manning versus Grossman, but check out this factoid:
The Bears won games with Grossman QB ratings of 1.3 and 10.2.
The Colts lost games with Manning QB ratings of 67.7, 98.8, and 135.3 (against the lowly Houston Texans).

Grossman doesn't have to dominate for the Bears to win, since they can also score on defense and special teams. The Colts? They're a one-trick pony. (And no, that pun was most definitely not intended. I was groaning as I typed it out.)

Devin Hester.

Chicago is the venue city for the 2007 YearlyKos conference. And they'll still be celebrating their Super Bowl victory in August.

In any case, the pressure is on Manning and the Colts. No one expects the Bears to win. Heck, people will apparently be amazed if Grossman doesn't trip on the way to his first huddle. And that makes it really fun for Bears fans

one of coop's predecessor, in both position and philosophy. obviously i never witnessed his good work but i heard stories.

by larry on Feb 2, 2007 2:56 PM CST reply actions

wow, lots of praise
speaking of philosophy here he's in his own words:

[Bob Vanderberg]

"I always worked toward a delivery that was conducive to throwing strikes. I preached delivery and keeping the ball low. If you have the proper delivery, the pitch will be low or you'll have command of it. My argument was, you can never practice theory unless the mechanics of pitching are ironed out. To tell a guy to throw a ball low and away, and it goes high and inside, there's something wrong with the mechanics."

larry, nice catch
I remember Ray Berres, and reading the list of "retreads" he turned around brought a smile to my face.  Can't believe he was 99 freaking years old, though.

Sigh.

I said this two weeks ago.......
when I said he lacked intensity and compared him to Joe Borchard.  Its to to see management see's it too.

by chisox on Feb 2, 2007 5:05 PM CST reply actions

Borchard was intense...
By all accounts he worked as hard as anyone, took failure very hard, and had a "football mentality".

For whatever reason, people always conflate poor performance in baseball with "lack of intensity". I think it's rarely the case that lack of effort is the principle reason a player or team fails. It's usually a lack of talent and/or knowledege.

It drives me nuts when people do things like blaming a lack of "Rowand-like" aggressiveness for the Sox demise in 2006. That kind of thinking leads peolple to do things like signing Darin Erstad. It's not rational.

Oh...and mini-Bears 27 Colts 23
I'm assuming that Lovie is mini...if he's full-sized I need to change my prediction.
