Ah, Ozzie

Ozzie's statements about roster management often cause elevated blood pressure readings here.  I figure his desire for three lefty relievers and other rants are good for entertainment and have no bearing on what will actually happen to the roster.  As spring training has started it seems he's done a verbal 180 on Brian Anderson as well.

Joe Cowley's article in today's Sun-Times mentions Anderson's 2-3 day and follows up with praise from Ozzie:

''He played great,'' Guillen said afterward. ''Brian is part of our ballclub. The way I talk about Brian [this offseason], people think he's automatically off the team. But I want him to play good and play the way we know he can play. We take a lot of heat because of him last year, but he knows I'm behind him 100 percent.

''This kid came out and competed. But the problem we have in the outfield is a good problem. I have plenty of guys, and it's good for him to have someone push him to get better.''

Ozzie doesn't take Ozzie seriously.  He'll happily contradict himself, and has done so again.  Will Anderson be the everyday centerfielder?  Will he caddy for Erstad?  I don't know, but I know relying upon Ozzie's statements in the paper is only useful for laughs.
