Around SBN: Two Minutes Of Thunder Basketball Wins The Game

No Eduardo Perez

As shaftr pointed out the player that will take Brian Anderson's place is Luis Terrero:

[whitesox.com]

Prior to tonight's game vs. the Seattle Mariners, the Chicago White Sox purchased the contract of outfielder Luis Terrero from Class AAA Charlotte. Terrero, 26, is hitting .231 (15-65) with four doubles, four home runs and nine RBI in 20 games with the Knights this season. He will wear uniform No. 30.
Terroro's current minor league stats: .231/.254/.477/.731 with 15 Ks and 1 BBs.

good news
His career line of .239/.318/.358 vs. LHP is better than the Sox current Team line of .197/.296/.258.

/lazy and unfair use of statistics.

4 HR, 9 RBI look pretty good right now...
But when will he play, and where?
It should be called Bill Veeck Park!

by Chiburb on May 1, 2007 3:33 PM CDT reply actions

All 4 HR
Came in the dinky Knights home stadium. they could all be flyouts.

Hey, naysayer
it's all a line drive in the box score.  If we are groping for the average HR distance of a .231 hitter from AAA Charlotte I think we are talking about how many angels dance on the head of a pin.

Does it really matter?  "It's like Red says - Scotty seen something in you."

15 K's, 1 BB & Speed
A perfect leadoff man for Ozzie.
This kid, he had his chance last year.

Um
Is this suppose to make me feel good?

And a 9:05 start tonight...ugh.

Well, at least Buehrle's happy
File this under "What we already knew", from mlb.com:

Pearls from the diamond
*  Trade rumors swirled around Chicago White Sox left-hander Mark Buehrle all winter after he went 12-13 with a career-high 4.99 ERA, including 3-7 with a 6.44 ERA after the All-Star break. Now, the author of the season's first no-hitter is hot property with a 2-1 record and 2.97 ERA in his first five starts.

The difference?

One scout who saw Buerhle this year, and last, says it's simply a better approach by Buehrle.

"To me, he'd gotten away from the thing that made him successful in the first place," the scout said. "When he's at his best, he throws strikes early and he stays low in the zone. Then, he raises the hitter's eye level and gets them to chase his fastball up, which looks hittable, especially after they've looked at low stuff. Or he gets them with a cut fastball inside. I think he got away from that too much late last year and that's when he ran into trouble."

Buehrle allowed 301 baserunners in 204 innings last year. He's allowed 27 in 30 1/3 innings this season

theres no way this guy is better than BA

Dear Luis Terrero,
BLEEEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

by southsider80 on May 1, 2007 6:18 PM CDT reply actions

Maybe he'll be less attrocious
than we're expecting, ala Mr. Erstad. Here's hoping.

by ballyb on May 1, 2007 6:23 PM CDT reply actions

I can't wait!
A low-average, low-power outfielder who can't draw a walk?  That's exactly what this club needs!

by Dongfang Hong on May 1, 2007 6:30 PM CDT reply actions

Take it away!
Some outfielders are bad
They can really make you mad
Other ones'll you swear and curse.
When Hawk's praising Erstad's hustle
And Thome's pulled a muscle,
Then this'll help things turn out for the best...

Eh, always look on the bright side of Sox! (de-do, de-do-de-do-de-do)
Always look on the light side of Sox!

If the Sox seem downright rotten
There's something you've forgotten
And that it's just a game on the TV
When you're feeling in the dumps
Oh, don't be silly chumps!
Just put in your two-oh-five DVD!

And...always look on the bright side of life!
(de-do, de-do-de-do-de-do)
Always look on the light side of life!
(ya started with no wins, so if you finish with no wins, what'd you lose?  Nothing!  Come on, cheer up, Brian!)

Apologies to Eric Idle and the Pythons, of course.

by Dongfang Hong on May 1, 2007 6:42 PM CDT up reply actions

Obviously, the Blue Jays manager, John Gibbons
had a different pregame talk than Ozzie's white flag when facing CC Sabathia.

Jays 1st inning - 3 solo homers.

by ballyb on May 1, 2007 6:47 PM CDT reply actions

Hard to believe
but an offense that features Royce Clayton as a starter is running circles around the Sox.

Anybody have any special memories of the Royce Clayton era on the south side?  I had forgotten about it entirely until looking at Toronto's lineup reminded me that Big Frank isn't the only ex-Sox on their roster.

royce clayton
was the fielding shortstop on the southside ever

by Jbasic89 on May 1, 2007 7:30 PM CDT up reply actions

indeed
he was the fieldingest.

by Ryno on May 1, 2007 7:33 PM CDT up reply actions

Now that's just wrong.
He wasn't just the fieldingest.  He was the fielding shortstop.  There was but one.

by Dongfang Hong on May 1, 2007 8:04 PM CDT up reply actions

I guess
I think he was better than you do.

Anderson
can't even break into the starting lineup in Charlotte.

Tonight's outfield.

Owens LF
Gonzalez, A CF
Kelly RF

He really stinks!

Unfortunately.....
I think after Sunday most of us on this board will be talking about about 2008.

by stanchar on May 1, 2007 7:41 PM CDT reply actions

Im sorry
I just dont "get" this sentiment. I have a read it a few times now. I am the first to come down on my friends who read SSS and say its over the top negative. But cmon. Even with a below avg offense, pitching and defense goes a long way. And nothing recently has made me believe those 2 things are gone.

Not saying they are likely to win the division without improving the hitting but they certainly are not going 0-5 this road trip and then are out of it.

by Tdogg on May 1, 2007 7:49 PM CDT up reply actions

How soon we give up!
Where were the Twins at this point last year?  Where was Cleveland at this point the year before?  Just because you start rough doesn't mean you'll finish that way.

by Dongfang Hong on May 1, 2007 8:07 PM CDT up reply actions

Was it over when the Germans
bombed Pearl Harbor?  Hell no!  And it ain't over now!!!  'Cause when the going gets tough....the tough stop buying tickets!

Come on - we're 12-11.  It's a new month!  We still live in America, where we don't seize foreign-owned oil fields (like in Ozzie's homeland).

I, for one, thing we have a legit shot at a wild card.

by winningugly on May 1, 2007 8:16 PM CDT up reply actions

Well, we don't seize foreign-owned oil fields
that are in our own country.  The ones in other countries are totally up for grabs, though.

I agree on the Wild Card there.  I think the Twinks, Tigs, and Tribe and Tsox all have a good shot at the postseason.  Counting us out when we're still above .500 and our pitching is still intact is a bit premature, I think.

by Dongfang Hong on May 1, 2007 9:12 PM CDT up reply actions

Here is why we will not beat Cleveland:
  1.  We send Brian Anderon to AAA.  Why?  We all know why.  Luis Terrero replaces him (really).
  2.  Cleveland sends Fausto Carmona to AAA today.  His last 3 starts - 6, 7.2, and 8 IP; 2, 2, and 1 run allowed, respectively.  Why send him down?  Because Cliff Lee replaced him, coming off the DL.
Um, they have depth.  In pitching, which is supposedly their weak spot.

Yeesh.

by winningugly on May 1, 2007 7:50 PM CDT reply actions

Anyone agree.......
that assuming (and I realize it's so early that this a major assumption) the White Sox appear to be an also ran come June 1 that Reinsdorf will simply look at his other franchise and go that route....break everything up, absorb a couple rebuilding years, and then look for a strong return in 2010??????

by stanchar on May 1, 2007 7:58 PM CDT reply actions

No, I don't think he'd do that at all.
He needs to build a larger base of Sox fans that come to the ballpark year after year and imploding the team, and taking a few seasons off, two years after the WS title is not the way to go about it.
