Faustino De Los Santos update

I've written once before about previously unknown prospect, DLS. Thanks to his 7 innings of no-hit work last night, we've got some more info in the form of a milb.com scouting report.

De Los Santos' fastball averages between 91-94 mph, and he often maintains that speed late in games. Owens said the 21-year-old right-hander, who throws a sinking fastball and slurve and is working on a changeup, averaged 94 throughout his final frame Tuesday.
In addition to the MILB report, a poster at Soxtalk claims that DLS was touching 96 in the 7th.

With those scouting reports, DLS currently has the highest ceiling of any pitching prospect not named Gio in our system.

time for a promotion
let's see what he can do at a higher level. sounds like he's got good stuff. nice to see that our overseas scouts have produced something of possible value.
Stay grindy, my friends.

I'd actually like...
to see Dewon Day pitch.  He might not have De los Santos's ceiling, but those numbers are crazy.

Ceiling's not the same
because he'll be relegated to the bullpen. Top end stuff is similar though. Day has mid-90's FB with an explosive slider.

DLS, carrying mid-90's heat into the late innings, profiles a starter, obviously.

LOL
The first link in Google for DLS is: Fire Greg Walker :: South Side Sox If this guy continues pitching even close to this level, at what point does he move up?

The thing that concerns me...
about De los Santos are those walks.  That's a gaudy ERA and a nice "K" ratio, but 21 walks in 41 innings is a bit disconcerting in A-ball.

seen that before
not all that unusual (e.g., vazquez, javy). the age is more concerning.
Stay grindy, my friends.

Absolutely
Control can be learned - "stuff" is harder to teach.

Age for pitchers
Is it that important? It seems like a decent number of pitchers make it to the bigs late and still have productive careers. Rich Hill might be one...and almost any college pitcher will end up getting to show around age 24 or 25 if they do well in the minors.

i was more looking at
how he's 21 and in low A. i would like to see him post similar numbers at a higher level.
Stay grindy, my friends.

The reports
say he needs to work on his command. 21 walks in 41 innings is not good, but when you take it with 45 K's its not as horrible either.

Sample Size issues
but, he posted a 21/13 K/BB ratio in April (20.2 IP) and has improved to 24/8 in May (21 IP).

He was 60+/10 in the DSL last summer.

Walks are clearly what is holding him back right now, but he appears to be adjusting as the season goes on.

I'd look for him to be promoted following the draft.
