The recent explicative-laced tirades by Guillen correlate to, or are caused by, something. However contrary to conventional wisdom, historical trends point to something other than team performance.

I think the quote had something to do with

"get paid to sit and have fun", or the like.

If you do have a job where you are paid to do not much other than stroll a few feet every few hours (e.g. exchange lineup cards, remove pitchers, argue, etc.) and enjoy a few beers 3 hours later, well mazel tov, bro.

I sit, enjoy my job (most days), and get paid pretty well, but I think I'd trade it for the stress described by the Wizard. (2-3 years worth, maybe I could handle.)

no way i'd trade my job

for being a baseball manager. very little control over the actual product, idiotic bureaucratic shit i have to deal with, and the travel sucks. the pay may be nice but it's not worth it to me.

Agreed.

There's an awful lot of aggravation involved in being a manager. I don't think I'd be up for answering a barrage of questions every day.

Now, first base coach, that's a plum job. Nobody bugs the first base coach.

We've really plummeted since Gooch and Mack were given away. (Not that we were doing great prior to that). Anyone know what the stats are since the end of the deadline.

I wanted to mention them too when I was putting all the VORP stuff up. The Sox have completely cratered since we moved those two, and it's not a coincidence.

The only positive VORPS we have right now are Fields, Thome, PK, JD & AJ - that makes 5. Gooch & Mack make 7, so while they were still here we only had to play 2 negative VORPS. Now we have a minimum of 4 negative VORPs in the lineup every single day. You just can not win that way, our 3-6 batters are getting absolutely nothing to swing at. Thanks KW.

And re: a "family" business, it's no different than someone with a family eatery, or a franchised gas station, or an auto body shop. Family businesses are very tough to be involved with when you are not family - you just don't understand, nor have any family skin in the game.

So the key is to be part of the "Sox family" and realize that, in the end, you love 'em, no matter the cost.

Or, like some dysfunctional families, call a hit man and try to collect the insurance money. Either way, like when Tommy got whacked in "Goodfellas", "there wasn't nothing we could do". We suck. And will continue to suck for a good while yet. So, are you a fan? Or a bandwagon jumper?

Me, I like to win, but I like to bitch when we lose, so I'm happy either way.
