Danny Richar's defense
Over at BTF, Chris Dial has posted his awards for worst defensive infielders. Unshockingly, Josh Fields gets mentioned. Somewhat more surprisingly, Richar does as well. He was 2nd worst in the AL behind Wiggington at 2B.
I have to admit, Richar did look sort of rangeless to me last season. Given that he is an ex-shortstop, I sort of assumed my impression wasn't reflective of reality. Of course, all the caveats about defensive metrics apply. Richar may actually be average at 2B and there just isn't enough data to show that yet.....

Not a surprise
It is strange, however, in watching him at the games, he seemed fast enough, and his reactions quick (unlike Fields who always seemed a fraction late on reaction time), however, he never seemed to be able to extend himself out to reach a lot of close ground balls. I noticed this more towards second then first.
Hopefully he improved this during his stint at winter league.

FWIW, PMR didn't see him as that bad
Fields graded out significantly worse (made less than 92% of the plays a league avg. defender would have).
