you (and others) may be surprised how many converted outfielders (sometimes SS, too) there are out there.

Whoa.
Didn't know there were that many successful converted outfielders.

That's just icing on the cake, as far as I'm concerned. I was ready to get nothing for Aardsma, now we might, might have something.

Also, the Genesis of Mota and Socolovich is quite entertaining.

Mark Johnson
reminds me of brook fordyce, and then acquiring charles johnson, only to have him go on a home run binge for the 2nd half of the season, and for us to get spanked by the M's.

Crede still has competition
http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/7731286/Inge-bitter,-mad-about-losing-3B-job

Inge not so happy.  At least Joe doesn't cost $24MM. But Inge is healthy.

Jeff Cox: I'm going to call you "FN".

by winningugly on Jan 29, 2008 10:15 AM CST reply actions

Crede still has more trade value...
even with his injury issues due to Inge's awful contract.

by SSH2005 on Jan 29, 2008 10:16 AM CST up reply actions

i dont see
anyone taking on that full contract.  i'd have to believe that detroit would pick up half of it in order to get inge moved.
12/12/07- We'll miss you Andy Gonzalez

by The Deacon on Jan 29, 2008 10:18 AM CST up reply actions

Inge really struggled last year...
with the bat, and I don't imagine that the Tigers will dump him for fifty cents on the dollar.

I could see the Tigers at least trying to keep Inge around as a defensive replacement/super sub (Cabrera is not a good defensive player), too.

by The Jerry Royster Experience on Jan 29, 2008 10:19 AM CST up reply actions

anyone know
when inge signed that contract and what his numbers were the year prior to him signing that deal?
12/12/07- We'll miss you Andy Gonzalez

by The Deacon on Jan 29, 2008 10:21 AM CST up reply actions

After 2006.
He batted .253/.313/.463, and had his best year in terms of homers.

by The Jerry Royster Experience on Jan 29, 2008 10:23 AM CST up reply actions

ugh
not too pretty for those numbers, i guess they may have jumped the gun a little on him.

Inge has never been a great hitter...
I'm honestly not sure what the Tigers were thinking.

He is a fan favorite in Detroit (he's grindy!), so there might be some ancillary benefit to having him around.

by The Jerry Royster Experience on Jan 29, 2008 10:30 AM CST up reply actions

I love how Inge is mad...
that the Tigers traded for a player that is 100 times better than him.  Makes sense.

by SSH2005 on Jan 29, 2008 10:31 AM CST up reply actions

i think he's more mad
that he isn't going to play regularly. seems sort of reasonable to me. maybe that's just me.

by larry on Jan 29, 2008 10:33 AM CST up reply actions

Have to respect a guy who
doesn't want to mail it in for $6MM/year.
Jeff Cox: I'm going to call you "FN".

by winningugly on Jan 29, 2008 11:53 AM CST up reply actions

Well, I can understand...
nobody wants to lose their job.

Inge isn't dumb.  He knows that the Cabrera trade relegates him to the bench.  If the Tigers went ahead with this deal and never contacted Inge afterwards to explain where he fits in now, I can understand him being upset about that.

by The Jerry Royster Experience on Jan 29, 2008 10:33 AM CST up reply actions

Sounds like catching
Is what they'd like him to move to. I saw a story on it and it mentioned him possibly taking over the role in '09 - but now I can't find it. (Nor do I know the reason why I was reading it for that matter). Regardless, seems like a role they may have in mind as they are having him report with the catchers. (Plenty of stories on that)

by Brush Back on Jan 29, 2008 11:02 AM CST up reply actions

that's a pretty wise move
take an athlete with a nose for the game (and has experience at catcher, right?) who can't hit and move him to the end of the defense spectrum (DH-1B-LF-RF-3B-2B-CF-SS-C).  They screwed up with this contract and know Pudge is done soon enough, so that's the best way to get value from him.  And he really just can't hit, so I don't think even the Giants would want him as a starter.
His little smile pissed me off.

by colintj on Jan 29, 2008 2:21 PM CST up reply actions

also
he does have plus defense, but still, a lot of years for some ugly numbers.  that contract wouldnt have been so bad, say if it were for 2 years.

by The Deacon on Jan 29, 2008 10:38 AM CST up reply actions

Even if we didn't have Fields...
I think I would still rather have Linebrink and his contract over Inge and his contract.

by SSH2005 on Jan 29, 2008 10:39 AM CST up reply actions

We'll see.
It really depends on how healthy he shows he is during spring training.

by The Jerry Royster Experience on Jan 29, 2008 10:41 AM CST up reply actions

i can't say i'm worried about the health in ST
even without the surgery he was fine in ST. i'm more worried about teams thinking the same way as me and saying, yeah, this guy always was healthy in ST. show me more.

by larry on Jan 29, 2008 10:43 AM CST up reply actions

I suppose...
that's a possibility, in which case Crede's trade value would be very low.

At some point, the Sox have to ship Crede out for whatever they can get, right?  They're not going to send Fields off to Charlotte, are they?

by The Jerry Royster Experience on Jan 29, 2008 10:48 AM CST up reply actions

according to KW
yes.  he said joe crede and josh fields will not be on the same team. so if crede isnt shipped off, fields will be in AAA.
12/12/07- We'll miss you Andy Gonzalez

by The Deacon on Jan 29, 2008 10:51 AM CST up reply actions

you seem to like holding onto guys
for full value, or as close to it. i would think you'd be all for that idea.

by larry on Jan 29, 2008 10:58 AM CST up reply actions

I don't think...
Crede's full value is very high, and it's not really going to go up by holding onto him into the regular season.  Heck, I was all for non-tendering Crede.

The time to deal him for value was a year ago.  That window is pretty much closed now.

by The Jerry Royster Experience on Jan 29, 2008 11:03 AM CST up reply actions

and BA's full value is high?
dump and run, jerry. for them both.

by larry on Jan 29, 2008 11:10 AM CST up reply actions

I still think...
that Anderson can provide something to the White Sox, if handled correctly.

But clearly Williams and Guillen disagree, so it's a quixotic wish on my part.

by The Jerry Royster Experience on Jan 29, 2008 11:12 AM CST up reply actions

bridges burned long ago
i don't know what the backstory to this is but there certainly is one. i've got quite a few people who had to go from my workplace because it just didn't work out. it's not like they were all "bad" workers who didn't offer anything. it's just that we couldn't all get along. baseball isn't much different.

by larry on Jan 29, 2008 11:17 AM CST up reply actions

I would think....
...that we aren't going to get a whole lot for Crede.  Even if he tears up ST, he is still a huge injury risk, especially with only one-year left on his contract.

He doesn't have many suiters either, Milw. or SF??  Not sure if anyone else?

We might get another expiring contract or a B rated prospect or avg. major leaguer.

They signed Mike Cameron to play CF, Ryan Braun will move to LF, and Bill Hall will move to 3B.

for Hanna Montana, who will fill the Cell all summer long.  Her face, with make-up, is Chicago Tough.

LOL!
As the father of a 5 year old girl, I am well acquainted with HM - and she was here last night and also tonight at the O-rena, selling out within 3 (THREE) minutes.  Damn!

And she got a teefus job that now makes her look like John Elway (why the long face?).  Poor kid...

Required me to work OT because we covered the hell out of it.

One of the low points of my career was explaining to an editor what the tour managers meant when they said our photographer could shoot Miley Cyrus but not Hannah Montana.  And I don't have kids.
