Twins Eying Cabrera, Cowley Flinging Poop
I've avoided writing about off-season type stuff for obvious reasons--we have better things to discuss, after all--but this one just has too many fun elements to pass up.
Joe Christensen, "the Star Tribune's national baseball reporter," says the Twins have "identified White Sox shortstop Orlando Cabrera as someone they might pursue on the free agent market this offseason."
Not all that surprising, but let it sink in for a second. Alright, you've thought about it. What was the first though that crossed your mind? Good pick-up? Too expensive? Where would he play?
If your first thought was Poison in the Piranha's Pool, congratulations, your name is Joe Cowley.
The Cabrera virus spreading?
Guess which free agent-to-be could be front and center on the Twins' radar screen this winter? That's right, none other than shortstop Orlando Cabrera. The Star-Tribune is reporting that several members of the Twins front office will start doing their homework on Cabrera, with Nick Punto likely headed to free agency, leaving a vacancy at short. Sox manager Ozzie Guillen always joked that he wanted to find some poison to put in the water to "kill those little 'Piranhas,' '' well, the me-first veteran infielder would be the perfect arsenic.

Oh pretty please make it happen
nothing like having a 14 million dollar player with declining skills to cripple a small market team’s payroll.

Um, what will happen if the Sox sign Punto?
Isn’t that one of the signs of the apocalypse. If they signed him and he has a year like ’07, he might become the most hated White Sox player of all time.

aj is on the sox, right?
i would rather take a draft pick alone, than 1 plus punto.
and not b/c i hate him, but b/c he’s not very good.
he does not belong in the white sox off season discussion for SS.
