I'm not. As odd as this may sound

I’m pretty much ok with a terrible baseball season here and there. 162 2-4 hours games over 180 days is a big time commitment, not to mention all the highlights watching, blog reading, etc.

After a tough season like this one, with a penant race going since the all star break, I wouldn’t mind the break. Just so long as in 2010 we field a winner.,

I don't expect a huge rebound from them, but I don't think they'll be nearly as bad

as they were this year. Cleveland probably won’t end up with half its team on the DL next year, and the young Twins will only get more experienced and disciplined (and they might even get around to fixing their lack of a DH and 3B one of these years.)

Great season, and the Sox have some nice building blocks heading into 2009

The only thing I’m really sad about is that this is officially the end of summer for me. NYC has been cold this fall (this time last year we were still enjoying mid 80s) and this pretty much seals the deal on summer.

It’s going to be a trying 4 months or so, just like always. I’ll stair out the window and wait till spring, like always.

But it’s probably not feasible. One of Dye/Thome/Kong would have to go, and I don’t really see it happening.

Although a deal in which the White Sox agree to pick up 5 or so million of Thome’s 13 million dollar option would probably make him very tradeable.

I am proud of what Ozzie could do with this team. It is slower, (though stronger) and older than just about any team we played down the stretch (aside from the ageless Tigers)

2005 was a game changer for many of us

I’ve been a fan ever since my dad got me into this whole thing in March of 1983. Before 2005 we were pathetic, now we are proud and losses sting less and victory brings an appreciation not salvation.

That fall of 2005 was perhaps the lowest point of my life, and in the relationship with my father particularly. I won’t deny that as they won it all I shed a few tears and thought of how fucked up it was that things had gone so sour with a guy that fucking gave me a love of baseball.

Things have been much better since.

by madvillian on Oct 6, 2008 7:49 PM CDT up reply actions

"Do you want to have a catch, Dad? Boooooo-hoooooooo."

Seriously, my Dad and I haven’t even talked baseball this fall, so I am slightly envious. You sound like Bruce Springsteen introducing " Glory Days" in concert, talking about how his old man and him never could talk when he was in high school about anything except baseball. Don’t know why, but I don’t hear football stories similar to yours with your Dad.

Hey, the first time I was able to say I was better at baseball than my dad was a great moment, something tangible you know: you can’t exactly say that about football, just too many variables.

But rifling a laser at your old man as he struggles to get his glove in place is pretty damn concrete. As is the “my back hurts” that stops the game of catch as well.
