Around SBN: Two Minutes Of Thunder Basketball Wins The Game

A Season in Review: The Mystical Q!reature Will Ride Again...if his wrist feels better.

We wear black today for a different reason.

The enigmatic Season of Griffey Jr. has come to a climactic close, leaving us all to wallow in the overwhelming miasma of another miserable season where we didn’t win a World Series.  When are these guys gonna learn how to play baseball already?

Get with it, OZZIE, you IDIOT!

/jammer

I held off writing this until the day after because I wanted to get a good feel for everyone’s reactions before I beat the dead horse.  I assume a lot of us are experiencing similar emotions, whether you are comfortable talking about them or not…and I did not want to be repetitive in my possibly (no promises) final Fanpost for the season.

Aww, larry.  larry, no…please don’t cry, larrr.  I’ll fanpost again someday, lar....   There, there.

Anyway, I was also at a bar for the game last night, and perhaps felt necessary to drown a sorrow or two over some Pabst on draught.  And then a wee smidge of tequila found its silly way into my mouth...

Point is…by the time I got home, I was not really in a mood to sit down and throw all my estrogen-charged (as you’d suspect, I sobbed the whole drive home) rambling bullshit thoughts onto a page and hit publish.

 You’re welcome!

I decompressed today, and reflected through the SSS chatter.  Boy, were we talkative!  Chiburb (he’s funny!) laughed about how quickly you buried your wives and started looking for the blonde you saw…typical men, you are!  Didn’t even stop to reflect on the season in a way other than how it could improve for next year!

Saying that this season was "better than expectations" is one thing, and yes, we all agree …but to actually reflect on all the really exciting moments from the very start in April, and the edge-of-your-seat suspense heading down the home stretch…wow!  What a stupendous season we just witnessed.  Are we so jaded that we cannot take more time to appreciate such things?  Huh?

You ungrateful brats!

Let us not pretend that losing sucks, and it sucked to do it at home (I’d clearly so much rather do it on Minnesota’s field), but it didn’t really hurt too badly this time.  Not for me, at least.  I don’t attribute this to the fact that the team did better than expectations…I think I was just wholly satisfied with the season.  There were so many highs.  So many lovely summer nights, spent on my porch, watching wins in front of the sun setting on the mountains.   This team did us well.

And it ended on a really high note too.

The game that took place on September 30th, game 163, was the ultimate in bad-ass mother-fucking glory, right there.  I cannot remember a game that tickled me so, not since, probably, winning the World Series.

From the black-out, to the shut-out; from Danks to Jenks; from Griffey and A.J.’s play at home, to Thomer’s steamy mashed taters; or even Chelexei’s slam the night before, that got us there in the first place - and the look on that little Cuban's face (sniff....'merica)…

To the fact that it was the fucking Twins, for the first meeting since they shat all over our parade in Minnesota (when they won the World Series the week before)…that game was monumental and thrilling and everything you could hope for in a baseball game.

Remember how Punto looked like he had just eaten a turd?  How satisfying was that?!

Ajpunto_medium

Anyway, I recommend taking a moment to truly reflect on all the great wins – remember when Q! was ruling the land?  Remember when Contreras was pitching?  Remember when Pablo got DFA-ed?  And when Kenny got his favoritest, most shiniest toy ever?  Remember when Wiz returned?  Remember May 7th, 2008, when I was named Comcast Fan Of The Game?  That shit was tight.

There are many events to reflect upon with a satisfied smile, and I hope you will all take a quiet moment to do so in the upcoming week.  Remember the knots in the stomachs and the waves of adrenaline and jubilation.  Go to bed with a smile on your face, counting mashed taters leaving US Comiskular...

Oh, and as for Q! -  I blame him, in part, for allowing you all to rush into next season discussions…I know the anticipation of his return is going to loom gaily on all of our hearts and minds this post-season.  I admit, I am also quite excited to speculate what next year holds...I think a trade or two will give us the extra boost we need to take the pennant again next year - or at least compete with that other team whom we hate...

The magiq!al one.  He embodies godliness, that one.  He will rise from the Disabled List and lead us to greatness.  He is a statue; a precedence of form, figure, and grandeur. ....

Aside from that whole broken wrist on the bat thing...

that shit was weak.

To close, I am leaving you with an except from a Shawn Phillips song.  Before you even ask, hoodie, google is your friend:

For life consists of suffering
And life is made of pain
And if you do not know what happiness is
It's moments

The moments of a feeling
The moments of a glance
The moments that we try to hold
In our hearts and in our hands
And the moments made by anger
And the moments made by awe
But The moments made of wonder
Count the most

It's been a great time everyone; thanks for watching the season with me.

regards

Very nice, HSA - rec'd.

I have it on good authority, by the way, that Jammer has copyrighted the phrase “wallowing in overwhelming miasma”, so be careful …

Just got around to reading this...

Nicely done, young lady. Nicely done.

Trophinea, Trophinea, I have sought thee, sung thee, dreamed thee Trophinea. And thy name is like a prayer an angel whispers, Tophinea... Trophinea.

Good point, as usual.

The party's over
It's time to call it a day
They've burst your pretty balloon
And taken the moon away
It's time to wind up the masquerade
Just make your mind up the piper must be paid
