Here's Your Dayan Viciedo News: White Sox to Sign Dayan Viciedo
According to major-league sources, the Sox have reached an agreement with 19-year-old third baseman Dayan Viciedo, who was declared a free agent a week ago.
Viciedo reportedly will receive a major-league contract worth about $11 million. That’s more than twice the size of the deal that brought Alexei Ramirez to the White Sox last season, and Ramirez was second in American League Rookie of the Year voting last season.

Didn't I see this on a different channel - dam re-runs
Don't look back because we are going forward!
That is one hell of a steep deal
for an international player/non-MLB guy.
Not counting Japanese signings, but those guys have more professional experience.
I know that's a pisser, baby.
Agreed.

not if it's 4-5 years?
The greatest trick the White Sox ever pulled was convincing their fan base that "Ozzieball" ever existed.
Im comparing it to a top 10 draft pick college hitter.
But I doubt hes as polished.

Top 10 picks are not free agents
If they were, the money woud increase significanty. Its a good signing.

He's pretty much equal to an early first-round draft pick
Cuban baseball is about at the same difficulty level as AA. Tons of guys dominate AA and don’t even sniff the majors.
There’s no guarantee he’ll pan out. None whatsoever.
And, the highest first round draft bonus of 2008 was a tad over 6MM.
I know that's a pisser, baby.
Its nice to come home to see good news for once.
Though Im not so sure I like that contract too much, especially if he doesnt produce in the minors.

Man - I wish I you lifestyle then!
Don't look back because we are going forward!
He's right.
And the fact that they got Che so cheaply (and for such good utility) meant the price was going up with the extra eyeballs on him. AND, as we know, the 3B FA market’s a little light (not in the loafers – don’t freak out, mjthor).
For some reason I feel like having a Cuban sandwich.

Easy wu - I agree... for players its cheap, especially if it for 5 years and he makes the team
Don't look back because we are going forward!
We all agreed Che was cheap at $1.125M/year. If this is double+,
and they feel perhaps more confident in their assessment of him than they did with Che because of the positive words from 2 teammates, not just one, maybe they aren’t really paying up much.
I’d have a hard time believing he won’t make the team. We don’t have an All-Star in our future there.
For some reason I feel like having a Cuban sandwich.
I think Missile gets $8+ mil w/ incentives
so he won’t have to feel as bad.

MM send him some hookers too
The greatest trick the White Sox ever pulled was convincing their fan base that "Ozzieball" ever existed.
I have a hard time believing he will make the team
this year. Newly minted 20 y.o. players just don’t play MLB very often. The only position player to have sig. playing time as a 20 y.o. last year was Justin Upton (who turned 21 in August as opposed to Viciedo who won’t turn 21 until March of 2010), and I don’t think anybody is comparing this guy to Justin Upton. Viciedo has the added disadvantage of proving that he can play adequate 3B defense in addition to surviving with the bat. I would say the odds of Viciedo being given the starting 3B job out of ST at <10%. And since there is no room at 1B, DH or corner OF, I would put the chances of him making the team only slightly better than that.
I think we ought to call Thome and Konerko the "Cholesterol Brothers" because of the way they clog the bases.
No doubt.
If this signing is true, Viciedo looks to be part of the 2010 picture more than the 2009 picture. He immediately becomes one of the top-three prospects in the Sox system, but no more than that right now.

I'm not disagreeing but,
It’s not like Josh “I can’t hit a fastball” Fields and Wilson Betemit are gold glovers. I imagine that his bat will at least be equal to theirs. Defense let’s wait and see….
Where does this put him on our prospect list…?
Ahead of or behind Gordon Beckham?

prolly behind
i’m sayin third on the list behind beckham and poreda

3rd….
So we just attained the 3rd best prospect we have and he is under control for 4-5 years for 11 million…..
He got more money since it was open bidding… If he went into the draft he obviously would have had to sign for less.
I just don’t see how this isn’t a fantastic move…..
