He also took part in the victory parade for the Chicago White Sox 2005 World Series Championship and his statue stands on the outfield concourse at U.S. Cellular Field.

Over the years, I’ve had the chance to meet Minnie when I was a teenager. Later years, have seen him at the ballpark on many occasions, he signed a picture for my daughter. He has always been a great guy . HAPPY BIRTHDAY MINNIE! The first of the White Sox Cuban Connections.

The White Sox do not plan to offer any of their eligible free agents arbitration before Monday’s deadline, opting for Draft compensation if they leave.

but when you read the story, merkin says the opposite, that the sox will be offering cabrera.

The team’s starter during what amounted to be a one-year stopover in 2008, has been classified as a Type A free agent.

I can't find it, probably because i misspelled his name

(I had to be dropping an ‘n’ in there somewhere)

but I was a big proponent of picking him up in ’06, when he was vastly underrated because he lacked the stuff to match his impressive minor league numbers and was always a touch old at his level to be considered a “top prospect.”

Though, to be fair, I probably said the same type of things about Tyler Clippard…

especially on teams that weren’t going anywhere. see, e.g., 2007 white sox.

the mere fact that he hasn't by this point in his career

suggests he sucks. the type of player he’s been in the minors suggests he sucks. the defensive metrics suggest he sucks. his recent injury history suggests he sucks. and by sucks, i mean “not replacement level”.

you get a 2.5 run adjustment in center field. that’s a quarter win below average at the plate plus average in center to be an average player. owens is a half win below average in center, which already puts him at .25 below average (.5 – .25 pos adj). plugging in his 75th percentile projection from PECOTA for the 2008 season (.278/ into the wOBA machine gives 1.5 wins below average hitting. that’s -1.75 below average, or a half win above replacement level.

he couldn’t match that projection in 2008 in AAA Charlotte, a level lower and a notorious bandbox. on top of that, if he had the same 30/13 SB/SB ratio in the MLB, it would have been another -.5 wins.

slap hitting fast sorts typically peak quickly and he got nowhere near his upside in 2008, which was barely above replacement level in the first place. the gravity of suck pulls hardest on those closest to the ground.

based on watching over 500 games over the past few years.

I forgot that right field

is the most important position on the field…. don’t you usually put your worst outfielder there? I know I do on my softball team. He has done a more than adequate job since he got here. Why else was he WS MVP? Go re-watch the world series… and in 06’ in a game against the injuns he made a catch crashing into the wall… laid down for 10 minutes… he was leading off the next inning and hit a homer. Dye is my guy. Just deal with it.
