White Sox' Stove is Still Cold

Not a lot of action on the site the last few days. These unsubstantiated rumors might liven things up. From the Rocky Mountain News, the Sox are interested in two Rockies.

Kansas City, the New York Yankees, Chicago White Sox and Atlanta have indicated interest in [Willy] Taveras.

Ugh.

The White Sox and Minnesota also have inquired about [Garrett] Atkins.

From the Boston Globe (via Seattle P-I)

[Eric] Byrnes, at two years, $22 million and recovering from hamstring injuries, brings a lot of energy and might be a good fit for a team like the White Sox.

That's what this team was lacking; energy. Talent is secondary, we need more high-energy guys. Quentin for Byrnes? I'm in!

I saw a guy

coming out of the GNC on State Street today that looked like Punto. He had a giant container of Whey Protein – I bet Punto is Pumpto for Free Agency – or maybe joining da Bears as their next QB? At least until SoxFest, January 30th. I hope he informed da beloved that he can’t QB in the super bowl due to a conflict of interest. Maybe Orton will be back by then?

I haven't figured out who a Not Swisher center fielder could possibly be

There are a number of decent plays for JD’s spot in right just because a defensive upgrade can do a lot for the overall numbers. Everything about JD says “trade his ass”…I assume this is obvious enough to at least some of the better front offices.

Here’s my back-of-the-napkin:

Garland – couldn’t crack the top 4 (5?) starters for LAAAAAA Angels’ playoff roster. LA won the division going away, and he might be considered a superfluous piece.
Cabrera – a necessary piece during the season, and we never would’ve made the playoffs without him. Never.

Thus, we win.

Ultimately, it doesn’t matter if any trades are set up involving Konerko. It doesn’t matter if Williams arranges a 9-for-1 deal with the Angels, as a pure example. The first baseman has earned, and I stress the word “earned,” the right to veto any trade as a 10-year-veteran and having spent at least five years with the same team. I don’t expect Konerko to go anywhere.

this team is better as it is then forcing someone else to step up and fail for us.

They aren’t going to win without trusting the guys they have because they can’t get any better by selling low and/or spending a **** load of moneys. And for those saying trade Dye while the value is high. Eat me. He was the second best hitter on the team last year and he can technically play in the outfield. I thought they should have traded him after 06 but I was wrong; you ride this man for all he has because he’s a very good hitter and he’s healthy now. He shouldn’t be traded just because he’s the default, if anything bring someone else in to take away ABs from the rest of the team.

What the hell are they supposed to get for Dye anyway, prospects? We ain’t even talking about major leaguers. Talking about prospects. Not even major leaguers. We talkin’ bout prospects. Talkin’ bout- this ain’t even major league hitters we talkin’ about! He’s supposed to be the face of the franchise and we talkin’ about prospects, man. I mean how silly is that? We not even talkin’ bout a pitcher, a major league pitcher, we talkin’ bout prospects. Because if there’s a pitcher out there worth trading for, odds are he isn’t going to be traded for Dye, and there isn’t any sense in trading him for a shitty one.

Taveras, Atkins, and Byrnes. Crikey, that’s bad stuff. Of the 3, Atkins is the most dangerous in that I think it would take actual talent to acquire him and those road splits make question his loyalty to America. also
The Sox are on the hunt for either a second-baseman or shortstop (especially after Pablo Ozuna signs with the Arizona Diamondbacks in this series)

ok lets check out the d-backs plan he has…

Arizona Diamondbacks sign 2B Juan Uribe.

i guess its understandable to confuse the two…

wow this stuff is great
The Yankees announce the move of Derek Jeter to center field.
This would cause shockwaves, but it simply has to be done.

Sad..we've got Byrnes, Taveras, and Ozuna rumors

I’d like to see the Sox rumors move on to a higher level of players I don’t want them to trade for like Coco Crisp and Randy Winn

Byrnes and Taveras

I can see Willy Taveras in a White Sox uniform. I think though, the Sox will have to give up a lot of prospects for on eof the stolen base leaders this year. Byrnes, he sucked big time this year when he was “healthy”. He had one good season, not any more like the 2006 campaign.

Are you suggesting Taveras and his .308 OBP would cost a lot of prospects?

I suppose, for all I know, he would. But either way that’s just ridiculous.

Even better is his .296 slg.

Rox Girl on Purple Row has the Rockies

settling on Wassermann for Taveras. So you can send them a lot of prospects, but she only wants Logan or Wassermann.

Mets Interested In Javier Vazquez
According to Dave van Dyck of the Chicago Tribune, the Mets are interested in White Sox pitcher Javier Vazquez. Van Dyck implies that the Sox could move top prospect Aaron Poreda into the rotation to replace him.

Vazquez has a connection to Omar Minaya, who traded him to the Yankees in December of 2003 as the Expos’ GM. Vazquez is owed $23MM for 2009-10. He’d give the Mets a pretty deep rotation. Van Dyck doesn’t believe it’d take much if the Mets paid all of his salary. Aaron Heilman could be a start.

Is Van Dick serious, Heilman could be a start?

And who else ya crusty bastard, does he think KW is going to burn a hole in his rotation to shore up the bullpen. Leave the ridiculous trade proposals to the lesbian Phil Rogers.

didnt work for me

but why would trading a reliever with a worse career era than our starter be a good idea. especially when the reliever had an era a whole run worse the previous year.

As a salary dump?

Vazquez for Heilman makes sense only if the Sox just want to drop salary. Sportwriters must vaguely remember Heilman being good 3 years ago and think he still is. He was awful last season, and I don’t see him improving the Sox at all. Vazquez, for all his faults, has a good shot at a 4.50ish ERA and 200 innings and his contract is shorter than what a FA would sign for. Dumping him for Heilman doesn’t do anything for me.

More Vazquez to the Mets rumors from the NY Post!
Vazquez is owed $23 million over the next two seasons and Chicago likely would have to take a contract – perhaps Castillo’s – in return. The Mets also might have to part with a prospect to make the deal work.

Anonymous Mets official says it probably a “pipedream”.

I like how the Sox have to take Castillo’s contract for the Mets to be able to afford $23M over the next 2 years.

I think the Sox are better served just to hold on the Vazquez than trade him for crap. Just my opinion.
