so I'm 1-1 with my votes for president

that’s kinda neat

this is weird. this is the first time I actually watched an election. there’s fireworks going off down here and a lot of people yelling. and even though i voted for the guy, i don’t feel like celebrating. the only thing i keep thinking is that man, Tupac would have been pumped and that now any time i here the song “Changes” i’m gonna laugh when i get to the part about not having lived to have seen a black president. and i’m kinda bothered that that is my only thought right now.

we need some hot stove action

The movement was so devastating that television announcer Hawk Harrelson called it "the Doomerang," saying that if Day had enough distance to work with, the pitch would eventually come back to him.

Yeah but

White Sox Shopping Vazquez, Swisher?

According to Dave van Dyck of the Chicago Tribune, the White Sox are aggressively shopping Javier Vazquez and Nick Swisher. Additionally, the Sox reportedly have interest in Rockies center fielder Willy Taveras.

GM Ken Williams didn’t offer much info regarding possible trade talks. Van Dyck speculates on names like Luis Castillo or Julio Lugo for Vazquez, seemingly suggesting Vazquez has a terrible contract too. Hard to figure out, as he remains a useful mid-rotation starter. Van Dyck wonders whether the A’s or Red Sox would have interest in Swisher, based on some tenuous Moneyball connection.

Van Dyck says the Rockies wouldn’t have interest in Vazquez or Swisher, but rather a young pitcher like Lance Broadway for Taveras.

9:58pm: Peavy apparently rejected one trade, to an American League team with a small ballpark.

I wonder who it was…

there is no way it was us

what could we have offered SD that they would have accepted for Peavy?

Van D

basically cherry picked a bunch of stuff from previous articles that have been written in the past couple days, (notably the interest in Taveras and the Vasquez to the Mets stuff, apparently he doesn’t know about this thing called the internet). Then in his conversation with KW, he assumes because Swisher will not play CF next year he wont be on the team. Too bad he forgot to follow up by asking him if he’d play RF, LF, or 1B, then he might’ve really been on to something.

the fact that Dyck

actually wrote the Rockies wouldn’t have interest in Swisher or Vasquez but would prefer Lance Broadway in a trade makes me think he might be posting on this site under the alias dasox

I'm surprised the article hasn't been posted yet...

there’s a Tribune article where Kenny is rather explicit in that Swisher will not be in CF next year (or maybe it has been and I just haven’t noticed). Which means that one of Dye, Konerko and Thome are likely gone. Not that there hasn’t been that kind of conjecture, just that it’s (at least from what I’ve read) the first time KW has been so frank.

by CWSKeith on Nov 4, 2008 11:35 PM CST reply actions

unless you're a beat writer

and you automatically assume Swisher is gone because he’s too patient of a hitter

by El Duque's Raft on Nov 4, 2008 11:36 PM CST up reply actions

I swear articles like that make me grind my teeth to nubs

the worst part is fans (some) and talk radio take it as gospel and spread this propaganda for the masses to consume. I’m having a hard time deciding which was the worse thing the Trib posted on their website today, this article or Rosenblog’s thoughts.

This sounds a lot like the comments made last year with Fields and Crede.

We all thought Crede was gone, Fields was going to start because of a similar comment about only one of them starting.

by southsideirish71 on Nov 4, 2008 11:39 PM CST up reply actions

Williams never said anything definitive about Crede

if anything, everything he said about Crede was that he would be back. We all interpreted that as Williams talking him up in anticipation of the trade.
