also i listened to yellow house by grizzly bear the other day and liked it a lot more than i remembered.

I like it as an album, it’s very well put-together. I don’t think there are any standout songs (if I was forced to name two I’d say “Nothing Ever Happened” and "Agoraphobia") that I’d put particularly on my iPod but I’m really digging the ‘flow’ of the CD and the whole of the CD rather than any individual parts.

I have a couple of their albums that I think are great (Never Hear The End of It, One Chord to Another), but all their old stuff is out of print, which makes their catalog hard to fill out.

(Sure, they’re on Amazon, but I only consider online shopping and mp3 purchasing a last resort, as it’s not fun.)

Whenever I ask people what they’re listening to, FF are one of the top three bands mentioned.

So I’ve given them something like five chances. And… I don’t get it.

It’s not like they’re bad. They’re actually somewhat pleasant. But it’s wafer-thin to me, and commands every ounce of my attention to not get distracted from it. What’s the universal payoff I’m missing out on?

what a great album. i always forget how many different fun parts there are throughout the album. favorite track is definitely i was born (a unicorn).

Nothing like a good ol’ fashioned rap album by someone who is going to jail for having firearms.

but lately, all I’ve been able to listen to is DJ/electronic/house shit. I used to hate that music. But nowadays, all I feel like actively listening to is along the Diplo/Flosstradamus/Justice/Switch/Vitalic lines.

I don’t know what caused this shift.

i’m listening to the same stuff as last week. except ive added all the blues on my comp. nothing too out there, just robert johnson, muddy waters, bb king, and john lee hooker. I have a very passing familiarity with the blues. then i’ll listen to nothing but blues for 3 days.

Cornmeal used to play at this divebar monthly in Rockford, 10 to 50 people at the most. Awesome stuff. I was thinking about seeing them in Madison yesterday but I’m low on the flow. I may go to the Vic though.

for hardcore musicfiles who frequent this thread and are not familiar, they’re a small publisher that specialize in books about critical albums, rock mostly. for example, they’ve put out books on ‘double nickels on the dime’ by the minutemen, ‘let it be’ by the replacements, ‘low’ by david bowie, the list goes on…
