Still don't know all the players in the proposed Vazquez deal, but we need a new thread.

As of right now, the latest info has the Sox receiving a package of 4 prospects picked from a list of 5. Best guess at their names appears to be Brent Lillibridge (for sure) Tyler Flowers (almost positive), Jon Gilmore (until we hear different) and Santos Rodriguez (I think).

Of course, Rotoworld has to be the one site to put a negative spin on it for the Sox.
The AJC’s Dave O’Brien reports that the White Sox will get Tyler Flowers, Brent Lillibridge, Jon Gilmore and Santos Rodriguez from the Braves for Javier Vazquez and Boone Logan.
Incredibly, the White Sox won’t be getting back any advanced pitching in the deal, though Rodriguez does have a live arm. Flowers is a significant talent and Lillibridge is probably better than he showed last season, but this still looks like a nice deal for Atlanta

From My Dead New Thread:

“Also: we’ve got 1 hour until the site goes down for 2. That will be fun. Most among us have already mentioned that they’re neglecting something important in their actual lives to track this development. And if you missed it, there’s a ton of good stuff in Cheat’s Javy Post not to mention the comments. Wading through 500+ comments would be daunting for the more well-rounded fanbases elsewhere. That’s where real life-crippling obsession comes in, baby!”

yeah

just because players that young have very high attrition rates and are therefore unlikely to ever contribute. someone who’s got a major league arm fits in somewhere.

by colintj on Dec 2, 2008 8:49 PM CST up reply actions

using my own ranking

Flowers — Top Prospect w/ Elite Prospect potential if he sticks behind plate and continues development at AA and above.
Gilmore - Plain Ol’ Prospect - Former first rounder, young for league. Hasn’t shown too much.
Lillibridge — Suspect — Poor contact skills and declining plate discipline fortell short stay in majors before career toiling in minors.
Rodriguez — Suspect — Good numbers as league repeater. Bullpen arm, hasn’t reached A-ball yet.

me too.

but it really doesn’t make a ton of sense from the Braves’ perspective to be giving up major league ready arms. it’s basically Flowers and depth pickups, adding some percentage points at starter and 3B. an advanced arm would be nice in addition.

percentage points at SS too.

it sounds like Lillibridge seriously screwed up his own swing. if he’s got, say, a 10% chance of getting back on track, that helps infield depth either way.
