LOL
First royalsreview takes away our championship and has Guillen fired, now this.  What CAN you believe that is disseminated (since we are talking about Danks, thought it'd be appropriate terminology) on the 'Net?
What exactly do you bring to any discussion other than endless stupid comments with some nasty little dig thrown in?

If Pete were here, we could tell by
the lack of used kleenex that we have an impostor on our hands.  But without that measure, who can tell?
dude, that was totally not swish you saw on rush street last night. swish was at home playing xbox.

I'm so over Johnie Danks
Jerry Owens is my new love interest, he's so cute!

Let the games begin!!!!
No, not Larry vs Deac or Pete vs WU.  No, not SSH posting the perfect lineup.  I mean a REAL HONEST TO GOODNESS BASEBALL GAME!!!

What a long and crappy winter.

Next time, Bhoov, do some research.

It's cold here, too - in the high 40's this AM.  Brrr.

mccarthy out/hurt (again)
seems like the sox got out just in time with this guy. maybe those guys who analyzed his delivery were on to something when they said he was a high injury risk. elbow "soreness."

by larry on Feb 27, 2008 10:26 AM CST reply actions

Just like you said before Larry
75% of the pitchers in spring training get arm/shoulder/elbow etc. soreness.
"Jenks, who was never afraid to say "no" to a hamburger..."

by BobbySouthSide on Feb 27, 2008 10:42 AM CST up reply actions

sure
but you'd rather see that soreness appear, i don't know, after they've done some actual pitching. and it's more worrisome when it's a pitcher who has had the same/similar soreness or injury in the recent past. when you have that confluence, it suggests a weakness.

by Chiburb on Feb 27, 2008 10:43 AM CST reply actions

Wait, wait...don't tell me.
That's not really John Danks!

It took all of my hungover brainpower to figure that one out.  So...I take it Thorn-dawg is still on the team?  What about Boone Logan?  I just realized I haven't thought about the Sox bullpen since around last June.

Out-underacheiving the other guy.

by defensive indifference on Feb 27, 2008 10:45 AM CST reply actions

Ozzie's lineup for today...
CF  Jerry Owens
SS  Orlando Cabrera
DH  Jim Thome
1B  Paul Konerko
RF  Jermaine Dye
C   A.J. Pierzynski
3B  Josh Fields
2B  Juan Uribe
LF  Brian Anderson
P   John Danks

Jerry Owens leading off and Uribe starting at 2B.  Southsideirish71's depressing predictions are likely going to come to fruition.

by SSH2005 on Feb 27, 2008 12:04 PM CST reply actions

Question:
They don't really think Jerry is better in center than BA, do they?  I realize it's only the first spring training game.

by BobbySouthSide on Feb 27, 2008 12:13 PM CST up reply actions

SSH just really needed to post a lineup
the accuracy of it wasn't his main concern. this is ST, after all.

by larry on Feb 27, 2008 12:18 PM CST up reply actions

Yes. Like the sun must rise,
tides must flow, SSH MUST post a lineup.  See my 7:30 post this thread.
Next time, Bhoov, do some research.

by Chiburb on Feb 27, 2008 12:20 PM CST up reply actions

since i'm already in midseason form
and, like everyone else, in the best shape of my life, here's the real lineup:

Bourgeois, CF

Cabrera, SS

Thome, DH

PK, 1B

Dye, RF

AJ, C

Fields, 3B

Uribe, 2B

Anderson, LF

Danks, LHP

Danks will be followed by Harrell, Wassermann, Sisco, Jenks, Logan, Day and Ohka.

and, as an added bonus, pitching for the rest of the week:

Thu, vs. Colo -- Contreras, Linebrink, Russell, Vasquez, Haeger, Perez, Ohka

Fri, vs. Ariz -- Buehrle, Broadway, Carrasco, Macdougal, Dotel, Harrell, Day

Sat vs. Ariz -- Floyd, Logan, Jenks, Wassermann, Sisco, Haeger, Perez

by larry on Feb 27, 2008 12:30 PM CST up reply actions

This makes me think that Anderson...
will definitely be traded.  It seems like it is more important to Ozzie to see if Bourgeois can play CF to possibly be a backup utility man who can play the infield and the outfield.

by SSH2005 on Feb 27, 2008 12:39 PM CST up reply actions

yes, we know that
wouldn't be more important to know that than confirming whether BA can still play center? i'm gonna go out on a limb here and say he can.

by larry on Feb 27, 2008 12:45 PM CST up reply actions

Probably...
Do you see there being any room for Bourgeois on our opening day roster?

by SSH2005 on Feb 27, 2008 1:39 PM CST up reply actions

If BA only could...
...catch up to the high heater.  Give him 3 of those and he grabs bench, almost everytime.
"Jenks, who was never afraid to say "no" to a hamburger..."

by BobbySouthSide on Feb 27, 2008 1:46 PM CST up reply actions

i wish
but no. pablo and then ramirez are ahead of him. barring injury (probably two), he's AAA. in the ideal "didn't give pablo that extension" world, he'd be a better choice because he can (at least we think) play center, too. he's probably the same player as ozuna otherwise. but now the sox also have ramirez, who is also a similar player (though, hopefully, better long-term). tough to see how he'd fit. he'd be a very good choice as a superutility player.

by larry on Feb 27, 2008 1:46 PM CST up reply actions

At least BA has Power
disclaimer: when he makes contact

Ramirez looks like he might have some power though.

I think BA has two more minor league options, so you're right - probably going to be sent down or traded.

"Jenks, who was never afraid to say "no" to a hamburger..."

With that disclaimer,
nobody has more power than Uribe.  That man sure can swing a turkey leg.

Perez homecoming not meant to be
By The Denver Post

Feb 27:
TUCSON -- Neifi Perez's search for a happy ending won't feature a reunion.

After OK'ing a $750,000 minor-league contract, the Rockies passed on bringing Perez back, determining it was not a good fit Tuesday night. They don't believe they backed out of the deal, because they said it was never official.

The contract, however, had posted with the players association on Monday afternoon.

"We got close," agent Paul Kinzer said. "Neifi is a little disappointed that we couldn't get it done, but we appreciate the Rockies considering him. We are sorry it didn't work out. In the end, we couldn't get it done."

Alvarez Out Indefinitely With Broken Bone In Hand
[Aaron Fitt]:
Vanderbilt third baseman Pedro Alvarez, a two-time first-team All-American and the No. 1 prospect for the 2008 draft, will miss a minimum of six weeks after breaking a bone in his hand in Vandy's season opener against Oregon State on Friday.

"This is an unfortunate situation for Pedro," Vanderbilt coach Tim Corbin said in a statement. "Obviously we will miss having him in the lineup and in the field. He is a special player that can't be replaced. This is the kind of injury you don't rush back from and we hope to have him back at full strength later in the season."

Calls to the Vanderbilt staff to get more details about the injury have not been returned.

Alvarez suffered the injury in his first at-bat but finished the game, going 0-for-2 with two walks. He sat out Vandy's next two games against Arizona State and Miami (Ohio).

Jordan Danks
I know it goes back to the old "will power develop?" question, but I'd be fine with taking Danks.

by shaftr on Feb 27, 2008 11:37 PM CST reply actions

woah there, slugger
danks is a projected late first round/supplemental round guy. now, that could all change based upon how he does this year. but, based upon what we know right now, the sox should do better than pick him.
