Nice job re: old Buehrle posts
Good memories. Not every minute of the Sox' '07 sucked.

That was a cold night.

Brutal.
One of my buddies basically forced me into it. The weather was so miserable I was trying to bail on that game all day. And the seats were club level! I'll forever be thankful he kept harassing me to go against my better judgement. It could be a long time before another Sox pitcher throws a no-no at home.
Why don't you crack an egg of knowledge all over me, buddy.
No, no, no...

Keep trying, you'll get it one of these days...
Maybe in intra-league play?
Next time, Bhoov, do some research.
Jermaine?????
Clueless.
Was that a ground out to 2nd for Owens?
Good catch
I hope for MLB.tv premium you get a better picture than that...
The stuff I've seen for the NCAA tourney (which is powered by MLB, or at least was in the past) is much better than this.

Franklin Morales 2008 ST stats.
16.2 innings - 24 hits, 7 BB and 18 runs (12 earned).
Was that a ground out to 2nd for Owens?
Today it will be
6 innings, 3 to 4 hits, and 5 or more stikeouts with less than 2 runs given up.

He will look like a Cy Young candidate
against the Sox. We can't hit lefties.

He's a lefty?
That explains a lot about how today's game is panning out thus far.
Seven batters faced, 1 walk, 4 groundouts, 2 Ks. Awesome.
by The Jerry Royster Experience on Mar 25, 2008 3:36 PM CDT up reply actions
What an effing joke.
Pre-today almost 2 runners per inning. Today 1 BB, that's it.
Will the ineptitude factor into tomorrow's cuts???
Was that a ground out to 2nd for Owens?
And the beat goes on
Another quick inning against the lefty.
The formula to shut down the sox has been the same for years.
1.) Lefty, the evil hand shuts down the sox as they pull everything to the left side
2.) The soft tossing righty ( Joe Mays model) who spots low and away, and throws a decent breaking pitch.
Our impatient bastards work out the left side of the infield pulling everything, and we make X pitcher with bad ERA into Cy Young.

You know you have Hawk
When you have the Cy Youngification process in the game.
"I don't know why this guy has a 7.49ERA Fiesty. He has 9 arm angles, and throws 5 different speeds. His control is pinpoint. I know that people hit him, but I don't see how."

I scheduled a gamethread tonight
for a random NBA game. (I couldn't find the Bulls game our schedule) So you guys can get a taste of a what a real gamethread will look like

Interesting
Brewers released RHP Claudio Vargas.
Bizarre. Vargas entered spring training looking like a long shot to win a spot in the Milwaukee rotation, but he had a 3.86 ERA in his five starts and it had seemed to be a given that he'd be in the rotation with both Yovani Gallardo and Chris Capuano out. At the very least, the Brewers figured to be able to trade him thanks to his strong spring. His $3.6 million salary proved to be too much of a hindrance apparently. Expect the Astros, Mets and others to pursue him once he clears waivers. Both Carlos Villanueva and Manny Parra will have rotation spots now.

hardball updated
http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports_hardball/2008/03/fields-demoted.html
fields demoted to AAA, Uribe will be 2B starter.
That just leaves...
the Anderson/Quentin question, and the MacDougal/Masset/Wassermann question open.
by The Jerry Royster Experience on Mar 25, 2008 3:47 PM CDT up reply actions
Ramirez will back up CF IMO
Anderson is in AAA or cut. I don't see the Sox cutting bait on Masset though.
by hitlesswonder on Mar 25, 2008 3:48 PM CDT up reply actions
It'll be fun...
to watch Masset get shelled over and over again, won't it?
Anderson has one or two options left, right? I think the team will hold onto him, at least for a while.
I still don't know what Pablo Ozuna is doing on this team.
by The Jerry Royster Experience on Mar 25, 2008 3:51 PM CDT up reply actions
Anderson = 2 options
He was put on the roster in 2005, but wasn't down long enough to burn an option.
didn't use one in '06
did use one last year.
So he should have 2 left.
AIM: SouthSideCheat
Ozuna
I agree. With Uribe and Ramirez it makes no sense to keep Ozuna over Fields. And I'm baffled as to how he became the official platoon leadoff hitter. He can't get on base.
by hitlesswonder on Mar 25, 2008 3:54 PM CDT up reply actions
Don't get me wrong...
If Fields isn't going to be the starting third baseman, he should be in AAA. I don't want him sitting on the bench.
Joe Crede should be gone, though, as should Ozuna.
Also, I'm not too thrilled about Ramirez sitting on the bench, either. He should be playing every day in AAA. I'd rather see someone like Jason Bourgeois do the job that Ozuna's doing.
by The Jerry Royster Experience on Mar 25, 2008 3:57 PM CDT up reply actions
Ozuna's Contract
is why he is here.

$1 million?
No, Ozzie loves the guy.
Was that a ground out to 2nd for Owens?
Gotta believe that Anderson makes the team.
Was that a ground out to 2nd for Owens?
Awful, Kenny and Ozzie are clueless...
So what was the point of the Garland trade? Uribe's awful bat is still in the lineup.
Crede and his garbage bat is still in the lineup while Fields wastes away at AAA.
Our team is run by a couple of morons.
The offense...
The only real upgrade is Swisher over Pods in the OF. Crede, Uribe, and Owens present the same 3 black holes in the lineup as Crede, Uribe, Pods. Plus Cabrera's bat is unlikely to be better than Iguchi's -- that's a push at best. I'm less optimistic about them scoring runs than I was going into spring training.
by hitlesswonder on Mar 25, 2008 3:53 PM CDT up reply actions
What a waste
A guy that can post a .900 OPS against LHP gets to sit in AAA while Thome gets to post a .700 OPS against them. Inefficient use of resources...
by hitlesswonder on Mar 25, 2008 3:50 PM CDT up reply actions
I just yacked
It is like when you go on a bender, and kind of have a vivid flashback that you did something wrong the night before, but you're not sure. Then Bam, your wife comes in and berates you for ten minutes on why is there 350 fried shrimp all over the kitchen and cocktail sauce all over the wallpaper.
Reality sets in and it just did for me.

So the only differences in our lineup...
is Swisher over Podsednik and Cabrera over Richar. Swisher is a massive upgrade but it doesn't seem like as much of an improvement as when I thought that Fields, Quentin, and Richar would be starting.
Pathetic.
agreed
You would think there was a lesson learned in last year's debacle, but apparently there hasn't been.
Then he interfered with AJ's weak grounder to short.

He has cut down...
on the Ks this spring. I'm taking that as a good sign - swinging and missing has always been Uribe's biggest problem.
by The Jerry Royster Experience on Mar 25, 2008 4:03 PM CDT up reply actions
Uribe will turn into swing for the fences Uribe
When the bell sounds.
He hit .313 in 06, and .285 last year. Then proceeded to battle for worst hitter on the team. He can't control himself. He hasn't seen a twinkie or a pitch he doesnt like.

4 - 1.

5-1 Sox
Second great slide I've seen from Crede this spring. So he's doing that well, which is nice.
I, too, was taught karate by an old asian man who was the maintenance man in my building.
I suppose so...
I guess you could call his spring a "healthy suck", which might be better than an unhealthy suck.
I, too, was taught karate by an old asian man who was the maintenance man in my building.
I do believe a healthy suck
is always better than an unhealthy one. But an unhealthy suck is NOT better than no suck A-tall.
I took the "under".
I submit JO, Erstad and Pods
as examples of an unhealthy suck being better than a healthy one. Their injuries forced the Sox to play better players, whereas their sucking did not.
I, too, was taught karate by an old asian man who was the maintenance man in my building.
Ramirez a
broken bat double....love it.

Cabrera looks terrible.
He better be real good in the clubhouse.
