Pretty much everyone here understands that it is very unlikely the Sox will make the playoffs this year. That's a given. But such is the natural state of White Sox fandom. We're not like the aristocratic Yankees or Cardinals or teams that expect it to be their divine right to contend year after year. We understand that the universe isn't fair, that the innocent suffer and that we are fundamentally alone and unloved. Such is the natural order.
But that doesn't mean we just take it.
We are Sox fans not because we expect championships but because we have no real choice. For better or worse, this is our tribe and through all the bone-headed decisions, bad players, futile losses and disappointment, this is who we are. We will forgive losing but we will never forgive players who don't care as much as we do.
So, with apologies to the immortal Ice-T, fck the Cubs and their idiot fans, fck the phony "Red Sox Nation," fck Cleveland and everyone who wears that grotesque cap, fck all the Steinbrenners jointly and severally, fck Bud Selig, fck the fans of Atlanta who were too stupid to understand what they had, fck Jaime Navarro (just for old time's sake), fck Roger Clemmens and all the ass-kissing journalists and politicians who cover for him, fck Jay Mariotti and his cynical cowardly crap, and fck all the people who look down their noses at us because we don't line-up behind a fashionable team.
Go get 'em boys. If you can't win, make sure they know they were in a fight.
