Here's hoping...
for a wonderful year.
Even though I'm not optimistic, it's still good to have baseball again.

Baseball!
Boy, that lineup sure looks a lot better than that sludge they were running out there the last few months of 2007. Go Sox!

didn't they homer at the 1st at-bat last year?

I just received word that they've removed some functionality
from our gamethread feature for today...
The boxscore should appear at gametime at the top of the site, but I don't think it will be auto updating winthin the gamethread itself...
Sitting at the top of the thread, they decided it wasn't worth the server strain -- updating every few seconds -- It could be back in a more prominent place soon.

Rain to appear in the 4 o'clock hour EDT
Wasn't Ozuna supposed to play 2B and bat 9th?
Maybe the lineup will change again?
Next time, Bhoov, do some research.

And Ramirez is batting 6th? Seems odd.

because the three batters behind him are better?

That and I think it was influenced by his

Precisely
As much as Ozzie loves his vets, this is the equivalent of saying Ramirez is better than AJ, Crede & Uribe.
by ChicagoPete on Mar 31, 2008 1:49 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
considering what he's said about ramirez, that shouldn't be a surprise
i personally don't think uribe is high on ozzie's list. and i have this suspicion that crede isn't, either. aj is obvious considering his handedness.

Ozzie's evaluation skills
Setting aside his fetish for basestealers/speedy slap hitters, I'm starting to think that Ozzie is a better talent evaluator than I had previously given him credit for...or at least better than Williams perhaps. I hope he's right about Ramirez.

Of course you sit the guy

I recognize that this is a bad lineup, but I see Fields, Quentin, Anderson, move Ramirez to 2B -- I see the possibility of a good lineup

Fields and Quentin with Ramirez to 2B would make the lineup look a lot better in my eyes. I hope the Sox make those moves before September.

The way to do it
Is to call one of Ozuna, Uribe, or Ramirez into Ozzie's office and tell him that he's moving on to someplace else (Ramirez presumably to AAA). And then call up Fields for the duration of the season.

he's on the DL. he's not on a rehab assignment if that's what you mean.

OCab I bet he feels horrible... Buehrle was cruising along before he booted that grounder. I understand why we didn't let Javy start this first game but sooner or later this team has to realize that Buehrle kills us on opening day.

He went 8innings 0 runs in '05... 4 innings 3 runs in '06 (rain shortened)

That was the first time Thome came up without
someone on base. And say why you will, but both Mark and CC allowed/are allowing fly balls whereas Nick is getting grounders. The heat is non existent, but if he's magically a groundballer, he can have a role on this team.

Bar results in the middle of May. And that doesn't really affect anything unless
I want to go back to private practice. In the meantime, I've got concerts to go to April 28-30, a concert on May 3, an A's game May 5, concerts May 13-14 and 16-18, as well as the dugout club seats for the Sox-Giants on May 18 during the day. Coupled with training hikes every weekend for the Yosemite extravaganza in early June, I am not going to be very productive during those three weeks.
