Thursday's game postponed
Tonight's game between the Chicago White Sox and the Minnesota Twins has been postponed due to the inclement weather forecast and rescheduled for Monday, June 9 at 1:05 p.m.
Fans should retain tickets and parking for tonight's postponed contest and exchange them for tickets to the rescheduled game on June 9.
Comcast SportsNet Chicago and WCSR Radio (670 AM) will broadcast the game.
In another note: The potential first Major League matchup between two Cuban-born pitchers will have to wait until at least the end of the month in Minneapolis, as Thursday night's series finale at U.S. Cellular Field between the White Sox and Twins has been cancelled due to persistent rain and the forecast for continued inclement weather.

Never.
Guillen almost always sticks to the five-man rotation.
Personally, I think that's dumb, especially given the dropoff to Floyd and Contreras, but that's what Guillen does.

didn't in 04
i'll leave to others whether having a given pitcher throw 220-250 innings is a good idea.

Depends on the pitcher...
depends on how he got to 220-250 innings.

well, when you figure out who can consistently handle it and who can't
without the use of hindsight, let me know.

That's the rub...
and honestly, I'm probably not qualified to make that decision. That's why there are such things as pitching coaches and scouts, etc.
I do get why managers hesitate to work pitchers. There's a lot of money involved, and managers don't want to be accused of "breaking" starting pitchers, particularly young ones. But I haven't seen much evidence that increasing the amount of times between starts has done much if anything to reduce pitcher injury, either.

i know that's the rub. and i'm fairly certain none of them have it figured out yet, either.
which is why i'm not particularly interested in breaking any pitchers - and, since we both know who you're talking about, especially any pitchers we have signed long term for lots of money - in order to "compete" in a year we're not going to compete. there's a reason you see managers start skipping lesser starters more frequently down the stretch and, obviously, in the playoffs. there ain't much reward here.

If only the season ended on April 10.
The Sox would be golden then.

I think you've gotta give Jose his work here early
Make a quick decision on what his future is with this team.

pah, a mere trifle
Someone like the Mets might be desperate for pitching this summer. If all it costs them is a Brian Dubee someone might bite the bullet. It'll only be $15mm by the all-star break.

Problem is...
that Contreras is under contract for 2009, as well. That actually decreases his trade value.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Contreras is going nowhere, regardless of how he pitches. The Sox will have to eat a big chunk of salary to move him (even for an A-ball reliever), and Ken Williams' recent moves indicate that he's got a real problem with the concept of "sunk costs".

rotation update
The White Sox slightly altered their rotation in the wake of the postponement.Jose Contreras was pushed back to start Friday night's series opener against Detroit, followed by Gavin Floyd and Javier Vazquez.
Mark Buehrle was moved back to start Monday night against Oakland because of the Athletics' predominantly left-handed hitting lineup.
Wow
Contreras vs. Willis on Friday...the score might be 12-10.

they'll switch it up again i'm sure, but they aren't overly worried about it against a mainly lefty-hitting team

yeah
Mark Buehrle will get seven days' rest as the result of the realigning of the White Sox's rotation following Thursday's rainout. But pitching coach Don Cooper insists Buehrle is healthy and will remain on a five-day schedule following his next start Monday against Oakland.
"Nothing is wrong with Buehrle," Cooper said during a conference call with reporters. "Mark Buehrle is fine with a couple of extra days (of rest). He's looking to get his 33 starts and 200 innings. Mark Buehrle will pitch on April 14, 19, 24 and 29th. That's every five days. There's no extra time."
The realigning also means that Buehrle and fellow left-hander John Danks will pitch on consecutive days (April 14-15 and 19-20) but will be separated after that.
at least they have platoon disadvantages as an excuse for their lefty-lergic lineup
