Last night in Charlotte....
Broadway had another solid start.
Barring him gettingb hurt
I think he'll be on the Sox this season..before September. Not that I think he's going to be effective in the bigs but it's a good bet that one of the Sox starters gets hurt or Contreras/Floyd is so bad they get moved to the pen. I think Broadway will do well enough in AAA that he'll be the one called up. Too bad Egbert got hurt.

Fields is playing well now
4-4 last night, .308 .419 .500 .919
If Thome's injured it's nice to have him ready to step in.

Stupid FOX blackout...
means I can't watch this game today.
Grumble grumble grumble...
Oh well. It's 75 degrees and sunny here today. Maybe I'll go outside later.

Great AB for Polanco there..
I'd be happy to escape with 1.
whew. Bad pitch, good D
Skanberg, if I wanted to hear your opinion, I would have brainwashed you by now-
Don Guillote
Yeah, really the only batter who didn't get what they wanted that inning was Sheff
Walk
Get him over
Shef
Then hard hit ball that Q makes a good play on
If going from the stretch already lowers his velocity
how much more is a slide step going to affect velocity? We don't know, could be not at all
Hmm
Second time I have seen Swisher not realize right away he popped it up in the field of play.
He should take some lessons from Joe. Joe knows exactly where his pop-ups go.
remember the good old days
all the way back to Opening Day, when the Sox didn't try to pull every pitch?
seems like months ago when they actually went with a pitch.
Skanberg, if I wanted to hear your opinion, I would have brainwashed you by now-
Don Guillote
What are you talking about?
Toby Hall put on a clinic in opposite-field hitting yesterday.

Wow... didn't know why they had Shef running
until I looked up his stolen bases. 22 for 27 last year? Career high? At age 38? I don't particularly like the guy but that is impressive stuff.
He's not a nice guy...
but he's a heck of a baseball player.

Swisher
Whats up with the bandage on swisher's chin?
Bruce Bonser? Boone Bonser? Boot Bonser?BOOSE BONZER?
WAIT A MINUTE
that's not a bandage at all! What the hell?
Bruce Bonser? Boone Bonser? Boot Bonser?BOOSE BONZER?

Gavin is getting out of all sorts of trouble...
but he's still not as painful to watch pitch as Contreras.
so if LF or 1B the future for miggy?
first time ever over there.
somewhere in arizona, jerry owens silently weeps.
He looked pretty good stretching out for that Crede play.
But I guess that would fall under the category of small sample size
yeah, wishing injury on a player
nothing really bad.

he looked clueless
On a belt high flat fastball. I don't think pitchers are very afraid of him ...

Bye-bye Gavin....
hello Lance (by first week of May).
that's one prediction we can safely say will not come true
somewhere in arizona, jerry owens silently weeps.
That was absolutely filthy...
I'm at work right now and me and another co-worker yelled out, "Holy Shit!!!" after watching that pitch by Gavin.
Fricking Uribe
Uribe is so fun to watch in the field and such a nightmare at the plate. Great turn their by Joe and Juan. Watching the replay it looked like Maggs was safe, but I'll take it.
movement
Gavin really does have the pitch movement of a 1-2 type pitcher. And for the most part his control has been there today
Yahoo is out
I had to work today, how did our collective boyfriend Q do?

The Deacon was an awesome pinch hitter
Seemed he always got something started.
''It's a grinder-type attitude, energetic attitude, confident-type attitude, and if it grinds on some people, then I need to know who those people are so we can move them on''
I'm about to jinx him
But numbers wise Floyd looks good. How does he look on tv? sloppy?

Well he almost let a new ball being thrown to him by the ump hit him in the face
Other than that he has looked alright, defense got him out of a few jams though too

curveball
is mostly working. TIgers lineup looks pretty bad at times. Still struggles with control and command.
I actually LOL-ed at Swish's reaction to that swinging strike
He smiled and nodded, but it just looked so comical to me
Uribe struck out swinging
I wonder if the guy at Yahoo has that ready to go when he walks up

1 hr 20 mins for 5 1/2 innings.
Pitching and defense.
"100...
or more if he wants to"
I love Bobby too Hawk, but let's try to remain within your standard deviation of crazy today, ok?
Bobby could throw the ball so hard
That it arrived in the catcher's mitt before it left his hand. *If* he wanted to. But I'd rather see him pitch.
wow
i tuned in late, but i havent seen a good sox at bat yet. the offense went shitty with the weather, huh?
2007 preseason Thome comments from baseball prospectus
...Thome`s numbers speak for themselves, and the Peoria native looked as natural in Chicago as mustard (not ketchup!) on a Vienna Beef hot dog. That said, Thome has one of the more bipolar PECOTA profiles around. Half of his comparables, such as Willie McCovey, remained productive into their forties, while the other half, such as Jose Canseco, got injured one too many times and fell off the face of the earth(my emphasis). Then you have Frank Thomas, who has done a little bit of both. Both Thome and Thomas are as likely to hit 12 home runs this year as they are to hit 40.
====================
Here's his comparables from baseball reference:
1. Jose Canseco (886)
2. Carlos Delgado (871)
3. Manny Ramirez (860)
4. Juan Gonzalez (858)
5. Mark McGwire (834)
6. Duke Snider (834) *
7. Willie Stargell (832) *
8. Albert Belle (822)
9. Jack Clark (816)
10. Johnny Mize (814) *
Canseco, Juan Gone, McGwire, Albert - they all went vanished virtually overnight. Keep your fingers crossed for the Thomer, I got a bad feeling.
''It's a grinder-type attitude, energetic attitude, confident-type attitude, and if it grinds on some people, then I need to know who those people are so we can move them on''
I know
Didn't look right to me either, but I just copied and pasted. The link is there.
''It's a grinder-type attitude, energetic attitude, confident-type attitude, and if it grinds on some people, then I need to know who those people are so we can move them on''
and they all disappeared this year
it was the injury ravaged season that did it.
somewhere in arizona, jerry owens silently weeps.
BP has a note saying that they're got some glitch with their comps
Do the years for these comparables look wrong? They are wrong!
Click here for the scoop. We'll have this fixed as soon as we can.
FWIW their #1 is Cliff Johnson. IIRC he dropped off a cliff (nyuk nyuk)
''It's a grinder-type attitude, energetic attitude, confident-type attitude, and if it grinds on some people, then I need to know who those people are so we can move them on''
last week cabrera was done
this week it's thome. keep it up. i'm sure one of these days you'll be right.
somewhere in arizona, jerry owens silently weeps.
I never said Cabrera couldn't hit
I said his defense is weak. Hitting is streaky, defense is pretty much a constant. It's readily apparent OCab's defense is average at best.
Thome's got some major issues, he hasn't slumped like this in the new millenium.
''It's a grinder-type attitude, energetic attitude, confident-type attitude, and if it grinds on some people, then I need to know who those people are so we can move them on''
but hitting is streaky?
and thome has major issues. got it.
somewhere in arizona, jerry owens silently weeps.
I think it's a little early for panic
It's a rather small number of games to decide Thome can't hit anymore. Most of his bad comps stopped hitting because they got hurt. IF Thome is healthy, I expect an acceptable year.

After 10 games he's hitting like Andy Gonzalez
''It's a grinder-type attitude, energetic attitude, confident-type attitude, and if it grinds on some people, then I need to know who those people are so we can move them on''
If it were to happen
Sorry for taking part in any jinxing... but if I believed I could really have any effect on the outcome of the game I wouldn't be working
you have to win the game. whatever is the best choice to do that.

and wouldn't it be nice for our pitcher not to be the one taking it?

OrCa was hit in the head by a pitch
Unfortunately for the Tigers "[Orcas] have a profound instinct for VENGENCE"
Git me over fastball
and he did something with it finally

"I'll bring the awesome." -The 'Swish'
Honestly I was gonna say this before the hit
but I was chompin on some Bacci's
Why exactly was Verlander pitching to AJ, a hot hitter with good numbers against him?
Jimmy stepped out to pick up a pack of Reds
Came back wondering the same thing.

especially when he was already sitting at about 110 pitches and had walked a guy and hit 2 in the inning
