Favorite Bar to drink at before or after the game?
I'll come right out and say it, I am a fan of alcoholic beverages. I am not an alcoholic(Matt), but before, during, and after the games I like to have a few drinks and it makes Juan Uribe falling over as he swings that much funnier to me.
I live in the Northern Suburbs so getting the stadium is a hike for me, but I still make the trip because lets face it I have an obsession with the Sox, my ex even said she knew I loved the Sox more then her, I asked what was the give away. Anyhow thats way off topic, I usually drive up the cumberland station park the car and hop on the blue line to the red line, I buy a day pass to ride the lines cuz it makes way more sense. While on the blue line I always make sure I leave in plenty of time to stop off on Damon and go to my favorite microbrewery in the city. If you get off at Damon walk down the stairs and walk one block there is a quite little pizza and brewery called Peace/Piece Im not really quite sure on the spelling, it has some pretty decent pizza...its no deep dish, its actually what they call New Haven style Pizza. But the main reason to go there is that they are there own microbrewery and brew some of the best beer in the city. My favorite is the Baron von Awesome, and with a name like that how can it not be??
Anyhow, I just wanted to hear about your stories and your places to go drinking before or after the games. Its always nice to try some new places, and if you're ever near damon make sure to stop by this place you won't be disappointed.
enjoy the beers and the Sox,
Ben "beano"

Piece!
Piece is f-ing amazing. Some of the best pizza Ive had in the city. No messing around: lay out dough on a giant cookie sheet and add great ingredients. Done. And the brews are very good.
I'm now out in IN and have been to the Cell once post-21, so I have no idea where Id go before/after the game.
But I know plenty of places I like to go in the city when Im in town often to visit family/friends. And ironically/unfortunately they all reside around that anti-park on Addison. All my buddies live around there - and some of the bars/grills are great. Barleycorn, GI on Clark; and I dont mind being on the Northside at game time. As a fan of the game, who doesnt appreciate Minor-league ball? Haha

What a place
The only public place I have ever been subjected to racist treatment.

I don't get the hype
with Piece. The beer’s alright, but the pizza sucks.
But there’s only one other person I know who shares my opinion, so I’d never discourage anyone from trying it.
As far as proclaiming Barleycorn to be “great”...you and I will never see eye to eye. The best place to be in Chicago during a Cubs game is everyywhere but Wrigleyville.

I'm sorta with you on Piece
I wouldn’t say it “sucks” but I certainly don’t get the hype. It’s OK and nothing more.
The beer though, quite nice.

Yeah, 'sucks' is too harsh a word.
And I always said I never ever use hyperbole.
It doesn’t suck, it just wouldn’t make itself onto any ‘best of’ lists for pizza in Chicago for me. But perhaps since there are so few legitamite brewpubs in Chicago, the perception gets elevated more than the food alone deserves.

What I took from my visit to Piece
1.) Excellent music being pumped into the place.
2.) Way to many people packed into the place (though it was a Saturday night during the NFL Playoffs so that most certainly probably contributed to it)
3.) Televisions everywhere.
4.) Large pizzas, and as anyone can tell you, if you lack quality make up for it with quantity.
You questioned the legitimacy of Chicago’s “brewpubs” which brings me to this: In my 28 years, I still have yet to venture in to a Goose Island Brewery. Is it not worth the effort?

You've only got a few more weeks for the
original Goose Island on Clybourn. Due to that reason, I’d make a point to head over there.

Oh really?
Thanks for the heads up. When are they closing down?

I believe it is staying open until the end of the year.
That is what I read in the Tribune at least.

I drink at the rear bumper
of my brother-in-law’s ‘03 Saturn. I have to live up to my moniker.
I usually bring something to eat, but in a pinch, the little hot dog stand on 35th Street, adjacent to Lot G has good dogs and fries.
I haven’t been there in years, but I would also highly recommend Ricobene’s on 26th Street for a breaded steak sandwich…truly heaven.

A SSS tailgate party would be pretty cool I think.
I’d happily share my smokey joe for the event and any and all cooler space

WTF?
How about mid-August? I’m in for a week, and would relish meeting some of you (lunatics) fellow Sox fans.

I'm as in as I was the first time.
I still think a tailgate would be a swell way to congregate though

I suggest Catchers
It’s a little of a walk on 35th about a block beyond Diversity, or a half mile from the park.
If you like Neighborhood bars this is the place, $6.50 pitchers $3.50 drafts, Music on Fridays. Don’t think they have food though.
