Is this situation...
clutch enough for Crede?

I'm sure this was really a pressing issue on everyone's minds...
but we will miss James Shields in TB this weekend….which I’m happy about.
He was lit up last week, IIRC.
I’m going to see the Sox on Sunday. Ticket sales are actually fairly brisk.
I took the "under".
why? looks like the sox have hit him pretty well...19 hits, 3 homers in 14 innings...5.79 era

Maybe his career numbers against us aren't great.....
but I seem to remember him pitching pretty well against last year here.
he pitched twice...once in chicago, once in tampa
first: 7 IP, 10 H, 4 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, 1 HR
second: 7 IP, 9 H, 5 ER, 0 BB, 11 K, 2 HR
TB lost both games.
you must just be thinking of the 11 Ks.

4 games in a row. of course the sox also won all 4 of them.

lol....
I had forgotton about that! That was indeed funny to watch. At least the fans in TB got some pizza out of it.

$1 hot dogs this Friday - they sure do treat the fans well
in TB. Except for the lack of winning baseball.
I took the "under".
Not the infamous
Joey Devine! We are screwed…
"Jenks, who was never afraid to say "no" to a hamburger..."
At least he's running up the pitch count
It takes 3 pitches to strike out after all
AIM: SouthSideCheat
all kidding aside, he's raised his P/PA from 3.54 to 3.56 with today's action, which included that 5 pitch marathon ab in the 2nd

I've heard...
that Betancourt doesn’t want to close, which could be crap, of course.
Whoever they pick, it won’t be hard to upgrade from Borowski.

Same as last night
Crede dove to his right (onto the foul line) and threw out the batter, with help from Swish at 1B.
I took the "under".
Crede made a good defensive play
Dove towards the line, made the pick in fair territory, momentum made him slide well in to foul territory. Got up threw ‘em out be a step.

that’s for sure.

1-2-3, all ground balls. take that all day, every day.
Somebody's shoved a red-hot poker up our ass, and I want to know whose name is on the handle!
A pretty big start today...
for Danks. Just would not have been good to have 2 rough ones in a row…confidence has to be back…and kind of cool that today is his birthday.
He was fine last week.
The damn piranhas just skeer’d him. 7 singles will make anyone not named Sirotka or Buehrle afraid of the strikezone.
AIM: SouthSideCheat
Must be great to be an Orioles' fans
at least for one night (tomorrow) as the O’s will get to face Contreras.
Hawk talking about the Boston Massacre
So whoever yesterday was lamenting about his “stuck in the ‘60’s” thing, he’s graduated to ‘77. Be patient.
I took the "under".
Seriously?
I was really hoping that Red Sox fans would stop talking about that after 2004, but no…

Is this Getaway Day?
Can anyone take some pitches? Looks like the car engines are already running for the trip to the airport.

The only reason why not

golly gee, those guys are such good team players.
now that i think of it, that’s probably why konerko, quentin, and crede didn’t do anything in the 9th last night. didn’t want to have to burn any more relievers in extras. ;-)

seriously, it's like having a pitcher batting
without the common curtsey to bunt
In the next
month or so, they need to look really HARD at jettising (is that right?) both Hall and Ozuna…..we can easily replace Ozuna…..and we’ve got to find somebody other than Hall.

i'd like to see hall DFA'd
if we can’t get a A ball prospect or any little scraps for him
Based on his throws down to 2nd on warmups between innings
I think his shoulder is healed. He had quite a bit of zip on his throws, like a good rising fastball.
''It's a grinder-type attitude, energetic attitude, confident-type attitude, and if it grinds on some people, then I need to know who those people are so we can move them on''
great news to hear a catcher is throwing rising fastballs down to second.
will make for easy tags if a runner forgets to slide.

Workin' on it
Running the SpaceCoast marathon in November so the July SF one is not in our plans. If we can keep portfolios treading water during this nuttiness, and if Brother larry can get his private equity fund clients to pony up to bail out my wife’s REIT we’ll probably make it this year. If not, next.

History
(Yes, I know it’s inconsistent, as Danks has a small track record hisself). Floydsie is poised to unravel. Purely speculative and non-scientific.
And, yes, I know Buehrle is better than Danks (see above – track record). But Johnny has been more consistent this year.
I took the "under".
ozzie would never drop marky mark that far down in the funky bunch
he has a lot of love for his 05 squad, and buehrle was a cornerstone
Um, no.

So far we've got a good top 4...

The Chronicle has a Hawk of their own:
“Danks, on the other hand, didn’t let a man past first – and he was helped when Emil Brown was thrown out trying to take an extra base on a drive to center in the second (though replays showed he might have been safe).”
Blood has been shed, Jerry.
Impressive start
I realize that it’s still early in the season, and the Sox have played a clawless Tigers team for two series, and have played well against a AAAA team in the A’s, (That’s a lotta A’s) but I haven’t seen too many signs of 2007 this year… except for maybe Big Mac’s near shitting of the bed last night.
I’m definitely surprised. I didn’t forsee the sox being this far above .500 by now :)
"God knows I gave my best in baseball at all times and no man on earth can truthfully judge me otherwise."
easy, big fella. i think the a's are playing above their long-term potential, too,
but until today they had the best record in the american league. if you’re going to give the sox any credit for their hot start, i would think you wouldn’t refer to the A’s, who just split a series at chicago, as a AAAA team.
Blood has been shed, Jerry.
by Toonderstrook on Apr 15, 2008 8:53 PM CDT up reply actions
I agree...
I’m trying to temper my surprise and giddiness by knocking a few holes in the boat. One of those holes is the fact I believe the A’s are as you said, playing above their long-term potential, the other being the Tigers missing their key players. The Sox played really well against the A’s two nights ago but just didn’t get the win. I blame the loss on a lack of scouting reports on that Greg Smith guy.
What really has me pumped so far are the impressive starts by Danks and Floyd. What has me less than pumped is the Count’s old man ass starting to appear.
