Contreras's motion

(added from bottom of thread #1)

For those of us without TV (currently I am watching Cleveland’s pitching implode), is Jose throwing sidearm, coming over the top, or mixing it up? The box score makes him seem healthy tonight.

by asinwreck on Apr 16, 2008 8:03 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Mixing

Lefties getting heavy dose of splittys, and it’s working effectively like it did when Jose was good

by 3E8 on Apr 16, 2008 8:04 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

that's encouraging

My worry from watching him get rocked earlier in the month was that he was throwing sidearm to compensate for an arm injury.

You know what's coming

Man up, Cubano man! Give him 1-2 batters.

I took the "under".

Fail test award

No Count – buenos noches, mi amigo.

LInebrink…

I took the "under".

WTF has happened to our bats?

Bats sick.

Gee Hawk, thanks a bunch for catching me up

“And the story tonight for Jose, just too much good stuff”

C'mon Joe

A slick fielder would’ve been all over that.

Sabathia also balked.

Don’t know if you saw that. Jermaine wanted to take out Uribe so badly.

Now I recognize him-

Ulysses S. Grant!

exactly

where i’m from, those aren’t “mutton chops.” That’s a “civil war beard.” Specifically, UNion General Ambrose Burnside.

Linebrink just lives on that low outside corner vs. RHB

A reliever can make a very nice living by hammering that spot.

Starters, too.

Reminds me of a “Ball Four” line:

“Just go high and tight, and then bam, bam, bam, 3 on the outside corner at the knees.”

Yeah, no problem, Skip.

I took the "under".

Worked very well for the Sox in the 05 postseason

Or Field of Dreams

Shoeless Joe Jackson: The first two were high and tight, so where do you think the next one’s gonna be?
Archie Graham: Well, either low and away, or in my ear.
Shoeless Joe Jackson: He’s not gonna wanna load the bases, so look low and away.
Archie Graham: Right.
Shoeless Joe Jackson: But watch out for in your ear.

It really bothers me how "The U"...

has all these LCD shows with the stereotypical oafish husband star that was tired before Home Improvement started… and then they somehow have Frasier too. Frasier was like the antithesis of those sitcoms (while remaining in the sitcom format).

Bobby Jenks likes the warm weather - there's that heater

94 with movement on the low outside corner

That should be illegal

cheat

if you add the event in a gamethread, do you need to add tags of the 2 teams?

Yeah

the related stories thing is broken here right now, it’s working everywhere else but it’s busted on SSS (at least on the stories)

Voila

Did I see him throw a friggin’ 12-6 curveball to Markakis? Did this beast add another bullet to his repertoire? If anyone DVR’d this, please rewind and let us know.

A 12-6 slider?

It looked like it was straight up/down.

by ChicagoPete on Apr 16, 2008 8:36 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I don't remember exactly

It was in the middle of the Markakis AB, he was working on him with heat and then this 12-6 breaking ball came down from the heavens. Bobby’s curve is usually 2-8ish/maybe 1-7ish.

This game is over

Boston-New York is one out over half-way through with the same start time… baseball sure is a KER-RAZY game!

And they've only shown the exhuming ofg the Ortiz jersey

twice already.

9-9 game. Very entertaining.

Though I suppose it could be a metaphor...

for how ugly the pitching has been!

Someone stop me! I’m killin’ it tonight!!

by CatBrains on Apr 16, 2008 8:40 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I can see that

Though even Art wasn’t quite that fug.

And that definitely was interference on the slide into 2nd

I’m sure those not watching will see what I’m talking about when the entirety of Sportscenter becomes highlights of the scoring plays from this game.

Pitching, defense...

...and the 3 run home run. Love it.

That was the best Contreras has looked in a long time...

Of course, it was against the Orioles’ lineup. Contreras was throwing 91 – 93 MPH drop-down and his forkball was wicked tonight. But it’s still strange that Contreras never seems to throw overhand anymore—no more 95 MPH heaters. Does it hurt him to throw overhand? In any case, I hope Contreras has a great season because Kenny needs to pull a Freddy Garcia Part II trade with him next offseason.

Linebrink has great stuff and he is still earning his paycheck.

Great F'ing Win!

Last year, if we would have only scored 3 runs – and all in the first – we would have lost for sure. Especially with all those base running gaffes. Man, what a great win.
