Where have all the Orioles gone?
Growing up, the Orioles were one of my favorite teams.
Players like Palmer, Grich, Bumbry, Singleton, Flanagan, Blair, Cuellar. Earl Weaver at the helm. Always fun to track and watch. Always grindy...
It seems like the once proud Orioles organization has been "Wirtzed". Obviously, it is tough to compete in the AL East, but at least the O's can be competitive once in a while. KC is near the level of respectability again.
Any thoughts?

they haven't finished above .500 in a decade
this isn’t new. bad ownership coupled with bad baseball decisions got them where they are. they’ve made some good moves of late but they’re starting from scratch. gonna take a while.
somewhere in arizona, jerry owens silently weeps.

I have a Bobby Grich autographed bat
I bought at a charity auction 7-8 years ago for $5. (So his sig devalued the bat by $25.) I liked the O’s as a kid, too (especially Brooksie). But Angelos has been one of THE worst (Wirtz?) owners in sports (similar to Dan Snyder, though at least he drives revenue).
Royals have made somewhat better business decisions (not stuck with too many long-term contracts with aging/steroided vets) which is perhaps why they can rebuild more effectively.
Hang in there – even the Sox turned it around.

I took the "under".

RE:O's
Are a silly little franchise.
I live in Baltimore, and while I may be the only White Sox fan living in Charm City, I do kind of sympathize for the ridiculousness that is ‘Birdland’.
Anyway, I wish them well and am going to tomorrows game against the Yanks (weather permit), but the O’s have nothing but a middling farm system and Nick Markakis to save them from a cellar. The Bedard and Tejada trades appear to be extreme positives, but hopefully the talent will translate further.
