Nothing of interest here tonite Hawk, time to talk about that FUCKING golf outing you had in the 80’s.

I don't believe
this team is much better than 2007. Week for week, we’re right on schedule for more of the same.
.500 is an optimistic finish for this team.
Macky D - his stuff looks sassy tonite

This team cannot score unless it hits a home run
Its about time for the Fire Walker banner to go back up. We have a few guys walking that we picked up, outside of that we still have the same lift and pull swing for the dan ryan offense. Men on, a nice double would work. No swing for the ryan and pop it up or strike out. Good work Walk, the perfect storm is back.

Really?
They had 13 hits, 4 doubles, 1 HR and 6 BB tonight. They scored 4 runs without a HR and had 12 non-HR hits. They had some bad ABs with runners in scoring position but Joba was also a reason they didn’t score more. I’m not suggesting Walker is a good hitting coach, but I don’t think this game is proof of a HR-swing-happy offense.
What does stand out is another absolutely abysmal bullpen performance: 7 runs in the last 3 innings. A good bullpen would let in 1 or 2 max. Guillen botched this with having Dotel pitch to Abreu, but Thornton’s arson was a piece of work as well.

pinch hitting
one thing this game did make me realize is that all the hitters on our bench are essentially worthless. when uribe came up with the bases loaded my first reaction was “you can’t let him bat here,” and then i thought about it for a second, and realized that hall, anderson, and ramirez all would’ve been woefully overmatched (in all fairness, most bench hitters would be against chamberlain), and pablo might’ve been a better choice than uribe because he makes contact, but not so overwhelmingly that leaving juan in there was indefensible. not having a lefty isn’t great either.
i guess what i’m saying, crazy as it may sound, is that i miss rob mackowiak. he’s just rotting on the bench in washington, maybe we can get him back! sadly, i’m only half kidding. i’m sure someone will explain to me that even a great lefty bench hitter is only likely be worth 1 win over the course of the season, but i’d still feel better about it.
