Line Up

Outside of Ozuna replacing Crede, I kind of like this line up

Question

Does Quentin have a better arm than Swisher? Why is Swisher in right and Q is left?

by joewho112 on Apr 27, 2008 1:09 PM CDT reply actions

the probably just want

quentin to get comfortable playing left right now. no need to move him around yet.

Potential

Uribe is a known and mediocre player. Alexei might be good. Very little harm in finding out

by joewho112 on Apr 27, 2008 1:49 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah... but we should find that out at AAA first

He isn’t as good as Uribe defensively (and probably never will be) and offensively he has shown nothing to suggest he would be an improvement over Uribe for the next few months.

by CatBrains on Apr 27, 2008 1:51 PM CDT up reply actions

Right now...

I think I’d prefer Ozuna at 2B everyday over either of those two.

by vince_ on Apr 27, 2008 1:52 PM CDT up reply actions

No thanks.

Much worse in the field and probably only marginally better at the plate.

by defensive indifference on Apr 27, 2008 1:53 PM CDT up reply actions

Have you seen Uribe swing recently?

He looks like he has fallen off a cliff.

by vince_ on Apr 27, 2008 1:55 PM CDT up reply actions

I agree to a certain extent. I do agree that Alexei needs at bats whether here or in AAA. But I see little downside in taking ABs from Uribe. His defense is that valuable and his hitting is about as bad as you can expect from Alexei

by joewho112 on Apr 27, 2008 1:55 PM CDT up reply actions

Typo

His defense isN’T that valuable

by joewho112 on Apr 27, 2008 1:55 PM CDT up reply actions

nothing to suggest he would be an improvement over Uribe

Umm….for one, Alexei swings the bat normally…
Plus he runs faster than Uribe and doesn’t look like a lizard while doing so….

And just because someone does well in AAA doesn’t mean that will transfer to the bigs.
No need to send him down – looking at him right here works just fine.

by swishit on Apr 27, 2008 1:58 PM CDT up reply actions

I dont know what "normally" means

but in his last AB he swung out of his shoes several times, and as I said above, he had pitches to hit and didn’t even make contact on a few.

Also I think it is a bit absurd to assume that forcing him to first acclimate himself to AAA pitching couldn’t help him eventually in the majors. Why do you think the minor leagues are there in the first place? People need to move up the ladder step by step (given that of course some steps can be skipped by exceptional players). Now Alexei was a bit of an unknown commodity coming into the season as has been discussed. He had a good spring and he could play multiple positions so the Sox gave him a shot at starting in the Bigs. By now he has shown that he has been overmatched even with Ozzie giving him spot starts against pitchers which he should have the highest likelihood of success. Now the Sox need to realize he needed to start at a lower rung in the ladder and climb his way up.

by CatBrains on Apr 27, 2008 2:15 PM CDT up reply actions

But Uribe's fat!

"I'll bring the awesome." -The 'Swish'

by Hazymania on Apr 27, 2008 2:28 PM CDT up reply actions

You aren't using the phrase "Case in point" correctly

http://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/case+in+point

You are quoting me (and changing my meaning in the process) in an attempt to make me look foolish, but your original “point” was not that I am a fool, it was that Alexei should be batting instead of Uribe. Therefore you have done nothing to justify your “Case in point” comment. (Something that would have justified such a comment would be Alexei having a good at bat or Uribe having a terrible one).

So I will here clarify my words and say that instead of “I don’t know what ‘normally’ means,” I should have said “I don’t know what you mean by ‘normally’”

And next time you reply to someone with some snarky comment, you should make sure you use your idioms correctly so you don’t appear foolish.

by CatBrains on Apr 27, 2008 2:49 PM CDT up reply actions

Cat for Brains... yes... very funny... original too

But, I think the meaning of what I said was clear, and even if it wasn’t, I corrected myself.

However my being clear or not being clear has nothing to do with you being snarky while also incorrectly invoking an idiom, when I was simply trying to argue my point.

by CatBrains on Apr 27, 2008 3:06 PM CDT up reply actions

So obviously you've been ranked before

You basically ripped what I said, then made your remark in whatever context you did or didn’t mean.

I can’t read your mind, nor would I want to.

But just because YOU made a “mistake”, and I replied to it, don’t come crying to ME about it….
I was not being snarky – I was actually making a point.

So let it go already….go have a beer or something.

Geesh.

by swishit on Apr 27, 2008 3:13 PM CDT up reply actions

Not being snarky?

So you literally thought I was not aware of what the word “normally” means? That was the “point” you were making? I don’t see how that “point” is relevant to the conversation we were having. You were in fact not making a “point” at all. You were using a quote (which I admit I could have originally made clearer and I corrected myself since then) to be dismissive of my argument and I find that to be snarky and it irritates me enough to point out your misuse of the idiom.

And aside from all that mess, what make you think I am not having a beer already?

by CatBrains on Apr 27, 2008 3:25 PM CDT up reply actions

I wonder why

Fields hasnt been given an opportunity to play 2B. Isnt 2B easier to field then 3B or SS?

by gamara21 on Apr 27, 2008 1:59 PM CDT reply actions

Well... techinically yes

2B is easier than SS but not 3B… and since you asked OR I guess yes would be the answer.

by CatBrains on Apr 27, 2008 2:02 PM CDT up reply actions

no

3rd needs a better arm, outside of that…2nd is harder.

the lack of hitting with RISP is killing this team right now. You got good players in the top half of the lineup consistantly getting on for the shitty bottom half that can’t do anything with them. It’s like trying to score big innings with half a MLB roster.
