refresh my memory?
was it last year or '06 that Willis threw batting practice to the Sox? Looked almost like he was just going thru the motions instead of pitching.

It was last year during interleague
He was "trying to take something off" of his pitches so he would have more control. He was still wild, and was eminently hittable.

Seeing this lineup
reminds me why I don't think Ozuna belongs on this roster. You have to have a backup catcher, so although Hall sucks there isn't an easy solution there.
Ozuna, on the other hand, might be hurting us in more way than one. He is a minus hitter/defender, which in itself is detrimental, and if Alexei is gonna stay on the roster, than this should be a start for him at 2nd. Alexei needs at-bats. He looks like he might be overmatched right now, but I think he is still giving you equal production to Ozuna.
Besides, does anyone want to see the 8-9 of this order as Ozuna-Hall. Come on, that blows.

Maggs played 82 games that year and slugged .436
we wouldn't have won a WS if he stayed, not to mention the money saved that allowed us to sign all the players we signed the offseason prior also not to mention the fact that he did what everyone in his position would do. There's no reason what so ever to hate on Maggs. He was a very good player who played hard for us.

Really Gavin?
Where the hell is that slider? My projection was contingent upon the single pitch he had that actually moves away from right handed batters. He looks like last year with somehwat simpler mechanics, but he's still only throwing his fastball for a strike. Ugh ugh ugh ugh.

No idea but here's the link...
Bartolo Colon faced just one batter over the minimum in five scoreless innings Thursday for Triple-A Pawtucket.
Colon hit 95 and 96 mph on the guy in the game against Indianapolis. Clay Buchholz's margin for error is getting smaller by the day. If Colon remains successful, the Red Sox will have to give him a look at the back of their rotation.

that's somethng the fielding metrics don't do right?
Account for the value of the balls caught or not caught? Probably wouldn't be that hard to incorporate either. Based on balls with the same approximate velo, angle and park, what were the results of those batted balls.
