Whatcha Been Listening To?

We found out last year that there's been a strong indie contingent on this blog for whatever reason so for that reason and for conversation's sake, what is everyone listening to?  A few things I like after the jump...

Star-divide

Vampire Weekend - I finally got past the hype/anti-hype that exploded around this band (check the archives of Idolator, Pitchfork, and every remotely popular music blog for what I'm talking about). It's just fun pop music that maybe I'll never listen to again, but for now I'm really enjoying their breezy afro-ish melodies.  They go really well with spring.

Pavement - As soon as the sun finally comes out of hiding and we spring ahead, it's Crooked Rain/Slanted time.  Obvious, sure, but they never get old for me.  Daydream Nation has the same hold on me and in the same sort of way.

Of Montreal - Specifically Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer.  For whatever reason it took me forever to get into this album, but now I can't get enough of it.  A little more electronica than they've been in the past, but it compares favorably to Satanic Panic In the Attic if you ask me.

The Black Keys - I bought Magic Potion on a recommendation and that was worked out very well indeed.  A friend exclaimed, "Like an awesome version of the White Stripes!"  She doesn't like them much since they sold out Detroit (her opinion, I'm undecided), so the Black Keys were a good alternative for her.  2 piece blues rock brought to you by a duo of 20somethings from somewhere in Ohio.

That's a good start I think.  Also if any of yous guys has a last fm, I'm (predictably) colintj.  Look me up.

***UPDATE***

Mazzy Star - So Tonight That I May See   mmmm...Hope Sandoval...

Arcade Fire

Funeral is one of my top ten favorite CDs, it's so wonderfully done. The Strokes and Arctic Monkeys also have my ear -- they're without a doubt my favorites in indie/alternative.

On the hip-hop side, I like The Cool Kids. And Wutang Clan -- although they're not 'indie', per se -- is forever. There's no better hip-hop CD than Enter the Wutang.

Strokes and Arctic Monkeys are two of my favs

check out Ted Leo and the Pharmacists and Margo and the Nuclear So and So's as well. I picked up the Vampire weekend cd too, and I really like it. A friend of mine gave it to me pretty much the day it came out, so i didn't realize there was so much hype until i was already familiar with all the songs. I like them a lot though.

Love ted leo.

Spectacular live performer, seen him 5 or 6 times. I remeber at p4k 2 years ago when he smashed his head on the mike and blood was running down his face during Ballad of the Sin Eater. It was pretty great. I really don't like Margot at all. my girlfriend seems to, however.

I feel like the Strokes are really underrated

Perhaps it's the fact that they have such a set sound, but I really enjoy them

Ben Folds Five with your "forever and ever amen" reference.

Now I listen to stuff that isn't all about how sad I am or some girl left me or how every day presents a new existential crisis. Instead I listen to old guy stuff from the ''60s and '70s (Dead, Allmans, etc.), as well as a lot of bluegrass and some jazz.

jeez, that's a little harsh on indie

especially with the prevalence of more or less meaningless lyrics. New Pornographers, Guided By Voices, Pavement, Broken Social Scene, etc etc

but I've been raiding the classics recently myself. post punk, new wave and classic rock stuff, like Neil Young and CSNY and the Band

Little Feat was one of my favorite bands when I was in college

It's funny how tastes change over time, I can't listen to them anymore. But the Allman Brothers still hold up strong, some music just withstands the test of time better than others. I think a lot of it has to do if there's some element of improv to it - even when you know what's coming it still sounds fresh because it was fresh to the band members at that moment in time. I was never a Dead fan but I can see why people would like them a lot, you definitely have that element to their music. The highly produced stuff like Pink Floyd or Led Zeppelin or Beatles I can't get into. I just got the FLAC of Zeppelin's Mothership and even though it sounds spectacular I listened to it once and that's enough.

Sounds like you like jazz, you should check out King Crimson - "Larks Tongues in Aspic" made in '73 I believe. Chaotic rock, weird time changes atonality and discord and incredible power. Half the time it sounds like they're flying off the handle but they always manage to bring it back in. I've had that in the CD changer in the car for a while, I still haven't gotten tired of listening to it. Timeless stuff.

by ChicagoPete on Apr 7, 2008 9:25 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

i've come close to getting some king crimson stuff for awhile.

i'll check it out. it's a shame you never dug the dead. have you had a proper introduction? if not, let me know and i can supply you with...well, whatever sort of introduction you need. i think at last check i had about 20 gigs of live dead.

Just because you are a character doesn't mean you have character.

by Toonderstrook on Apr 7, 2008 9:27 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I was overdosed on the Dead in college

I had a roommate one year where all he played for two semesters was the Dead, made me sick of them. Dead, Dead, Dead, day and night, every day. I'm far enough removed that I should probably give them another chance.

King Crimson's gone through a lot of different phases with different band members, but I'd suggest the era during these three albums: "Larks Tongues in Aspic", "Starless and Bible Black", and "Red". It's difficult listening first few times through, when I first heard it I wanted to smash the vinyl to bits - "what is this shit?!?!" But if you can handle Coltrane and Thelonius Monk it's not that bad.

Tooner - a little Neil Young perhaps?

This Dead has me digging out my old Neil Young, “Barstool Blues” playing now – nice:

I have seen you in the movies
And in those magazines at night
I saw you on the barstool when
You held that glass so tight.
And I saw you in my nightmares
But I’ll see you in my dreams
And I might live a thousand years
Before I know what that means.

Saw him in '77 or '78, if I remember

correctly, during his “Rust Never Sleeps” tour. Most intense guy onstage I’ve seen. Broke 3 guitar strings that night.

I listen to the “Harvest Moon” CD almost every Sunday AM reading the paper with my family. (Smashing Pumpkins “Adore”, Phish “Billy Breathes”, and Natalie Merchant “Tigerlily” are also involved in the mellowness.)

Gregg Allman

Just saw where he cancelled an appearance here because of He-C complications.

Also know for a fact when he was living in S. Florida years ago he would walk into his bank looking like a hobo, shoeless at times, unwashed, and cash his royalty check.

Had a nice hole in his nose from the blowzinski, too. ROCK AND ROLL, MAN!

It's one of the reasons I respect the Stones - they've always answered the bell, however crappy they've sounded.

i also can't imagine just giving up on indie rock. toonder, try iron and wine and built to spill. they definitely don't fit the lyrical mold you've grown tired of. they have more of the 'old guy' vibe you're looking for.

i hear ya. i don't mean to be so harsh.

the problem is that i end up not even associating iron & wine or bonnie 'prince' billy or any of that stuff with indie rock. indie rock at this point is privileged middle class educated guys pouting. or glamming to glam. and they take themselves, for the most part, so damn seriously.

Just because you are a character doesn't mean you have character.

"privileged middle class educated guys" doing a lot of things and most of whom take themselves any number of things, from my point of few anyway. and they are 99.5% white.

I guess

M.I.A doesn't count? I mean, what could be further from the upper-middle-class whiteness of Vampire Weekend or TPS than M.I.A?

You look hard enough at anything and you'll find flaws, saying Indie Rock is bad because some of it's producers are whiny rich over educated white people isn't that good of a critique.

by colintj on Apr 7, 2008 6:07 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

that's how it works though

You think M.I.A. started off on a major labor? No, she started off in the back waters of Asia and now she's on a frickin bud light commercial (might have been miller lite) and signed to a a major label.

There aren't many black indie rockers because most of hip-hop's most talented acts (and I love undie hip-hop and some of mainstream hip hop as much and maybe more than indie rock) are in the underground hip-hop, jazz and DJ scenes.

I'd have to say Jay 5 and Blackalicious and Cee-Lo are about as indie rock as you can get in audience. Most of underground hip hop is supported by white kids in college.

by madvillian on Apr 7, 2008 7:55 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

there is some truth to

the statement that underground hip-hop is supported by white kids in college, but maybe its the "underground" hip-hop being promoted through outlets like pitchforkmedia.

i don't know if they're still around, but when you went to a mole men collective show in chicago at metro or the hothouse, the scene was diverse.

same holds true in boston. the city has been holding a hip-hop fest for the last three years. the rosters usually consist of local acts but with headliners like rakim, de la soul. anyway, i've never seen so many black folks in public setting in this city. and they're singing along, which means to me that there is support for local underground music among the black community.

sounds like we have similar taste

i've been a big pavement fan since the early 90's. slanted and and crooked rain are obvious classics, but don't discount wowee zowee. it really grew on me over the years. of course, my favorite guided by voices album is under the bushes under the stars, so maybe i just love bands' lesser known albums after they record two masterpieces.

i got into hissing fauna last year and have been revisiting it again lately, and i agree with your assessment of vampire weekend. i probably won't be listening to it for the rest of my life, but i think it'll be a great part of the soundtrack to this summer. another band i think will be a summer favorite is black kids. i've only heard a few songs, but so far so good--catchy uptempo pop with a motown influence.

lately i've been listening to okkervil river's 'the stage names' a lot. their sound reminds me of arcade fire and the hold steady, except without as much springsteen influence, if you can imagine that.

other recent favorites are menomena, who record improv sessions and loop multiple tracks into songs they then learn to play live, and iron and wine's most recent album, 'the shepherd's dog.' i highly recommend all of iron and wine's stuff to anybody who appreciates folky acoustic pop. in a vaguely similar vein, if you like elliott smith, i'd also recommend rogue wave. they've got a song called 'lake michigan' you may have heard in one of the zune commercials.

another favorite i haven't heard as much talk about is annuals' 'be he me,' one of my favorite albums of the last few years. they have a big, full, varied sound that's hard to describe in that it incorporates so many different influences and styles. check out "carry around," "brother," or "complete or completing" for a good example of their sound.

oldies but goodies: spoon is never far from the rotation, especially as the weather warms up. lately i've also been listening to old dinosaur jr. quite a bit. not to sound like an old man, but if you're too young to have gotten into them before their recent renaissance, do yourself a favor and check out their early stuff with lou barlow (green mind, you're living all over me) and even the first post-barlow album, 'where you been.'

random note: as i was typing this the score played built to spill's "carry the zero" as the game came back from commercials.

you mentioned a few I forgot

Listened to Youre Living yesterday and I really really like the Stage Names. And Carry the Zero is my second favorite BtS song next to Sidewalk. Oh and maybe Else...guess what my faorite record of theirs is...

RE: Destroyer

If anyone is interested, Iaw him at the Black Cat on Friday and was mildly disappointed. I blame it on the synth and guitars being turned up way too loud, drowning out Bejar’s vocals. The set list was pretty decent; however, it seemed a little short.

Ah yes, the indie music thread.

I believe my first comment anywhere in this site was that first thread. I did find it odd that there were quite a few indie fans on SSS. BUt I really like that Vampire Weekend. I won free tickets to see them Last night at turner hall in milwaukee, but I had to go to the symphony for my Journalism class. I blew that off and saw VW, and it was great. Grizzly Bears

Touring with Radiohead this summer and playing Lollapalooza.

Them and Ben Harper. I really liked his last album so I'm working my way backwards through his catalog.

Also, the new Mars Volta is pretty great and I am all sorts of excited about seeing them at the Brawlroom on the 20th.

Aside from that, I picked up an Art Blakey disc in Lafayette last weekend that is really, really solid. One of the greatest jazz drummers ever. I picked it up for the version of 'Caravan' but the whole session is just amazing.

The big CD store in Lafayette?

I miss that place. It's incredible. I've yet to find an equivalent in this area, and I end up having to go to Borders.

What's the title? I've been meaning to get into Blakey, but not knowing where to start stalls me.

by Sox Machine on Apr 7, 2008 1:38 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

It might be West Lafayette

Not being from there makes my ability to tell where one ends and the other begins a little unreliable.

However, the Blakey I picked up is Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, album simply titled 'Caravan'. It's from sessions in 62. I'd recommend it. It's not my favorite rendition of Caravan, but it's a good one. I particularly like Reggie Workman's basswork on the disc.

Admittedly, I too am lacking in my Art Blakey collection, which is partly why I was so excited when I found 'Caravan'. The only other album I have with him drumming is a Thelonius/Coltrane combo from some New York gigs in '57 I think. If I was to make a recommendation, it would be Free For All from '64

It was more than a bit off campus

and was combined with a book store/hippie candle store/comic book store in the basement. In all, a great way to drain a college student's precious resources.

Bands I've gotten into within the past year

Architecture in Helsinki - I will admit they are very quirky, and when I first heard them said to myself, I like this, but damn this is weird. They sorta got into looking at other indie bands. I saw them out here in LA and they were unbelievably energetic as you would expect from their music.

Andrew Bird - I think he is an absolute genius and a Chicagoan to boot. Fav album by him is The Swimming Hour, but my favorite song "Heretics" is from Armchair Apocrypha. That song is tied to the memory of deplaning at both Hong Kong and Tokyo this past winter break as that song happened to be playing both times. And I love his take on Peter and the Wolf in Ratiate, Peter's Wolf, Oblivious Reel

Arcade Fire - Awesome, nothing to add to the prior commentary

Flight of the Conchords - If you haven't seen the show, shame on you ;) if you have, you know how brilliant they are. If anyone wants the songs from the show, lemme know, I can e-mail them to you

Of Montreal - Started listening to them about a month ago and am totally immersed in them at te moment. Though I do much prefer their rocktronica stuff moreso than their earlier standard rock stuff. Any suggestions as a to a similar band that I could give a try?

Belle and Sebastian - They just make me happy and there's something that just sounds so familiar about their music. When I first started listening to them most of their songs gave me the sense that I had heard them before though I never had. They have a vast number of styles of music too.

Muse - Tremendous live. Matthew Bellamy just gets really really really into it. The whole space obssession thing kinda intrigues me on top of their quality music

Hard-Fi - British Indie Rock band. I can't quite think of whom to compare them to. I suppose the directness of the guitar reminds me of the Clash, but that's the best I can do. Check out Hard to Beat and Gotta Reason which are my fav two. Better do Better is a softer song by them which is good too.

The Good, the Bad, and the Queen - This band is made of the lead singer and basist of the Gorillaz (both formerly of Blur). I love the way they use very simple piano riffs to compliment their songs. Check out Northern Whale, the Good the Bad and the Queen, and Mr Whippy for something slightly different

Gogol Bordello - They are somethign totally different. They term themselves as Gypsy Punk. They have a very Easter European style esp considering they make use of Violin, Accordian, and a bucket. Great live band, and I actually partied with them in Vegas...great bunch of guys and girls.

Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin - Very melodic, very nice and peaceful. They just came out with a new album, but I haven't heard it yet. Recommend the song Pangea and I'm Warm and Powerful.

-Ratatat - They make awesome music, but no lyrics. I can listen to Loud Pipes on repeat, and if you're a fan of rap, they remixed a bunch of rap songs which are phenomenal; some better than the originals.

-Jamiroquai - He's not new by any stretch of the imagination, but love love love Jamiroquai.

JUSTICE - If you like Daft Punk you'll probably enjoy these guys. We are your friends is their most famous song.

I guess that's it for now, there are definitely more but those are the newer bands I have gotten into. Incubus, the Hives, early 90's alternative (see Pearl Jam, STP, Rage, Soundgarden, etc) Jurassic 5, the Roots, the Stokes, Stevie Wonder, Sinatra, Beatles, RJD2, Queen, Hendrix, and many others are always in constant rotation

And I'm very welcome to suggestions, so if you think of someone I'd like based on the above, please tell me about it.

And I'm def gonna give Vampire Weekend a listen

Got a bit longwinded...oh well

it's pretty simple

walk around the perimeter because usually there is a corner that will be ungaurded. Behind the porta potties on the lake side was a no fail spot. also there was a corner that receded in lakeside next to a tiny stage, but there was no gaurd for miles there. never got chased. If those arent options, jump near the fat girl gaurd with no radio. My friend RG did that. but it's not too tough a proposition, if you can get oveer the anxiety.

also

if you hav a fat friend who wants to go, split the money on a bracelet and when they put it on be like "I have eczema, can you leave it loose?" slip it off and pass it through the fence. half price pass! But a group of 5 of my friends pulled off the jumping.

there are 2 other bands I have been checking out recently that also have that offbeat pop-ish sound (though these bands are distinctly less ska-influenced):

Vampire Weekend, etc

Vampire Weekend is influenced from afrobeat. Ska and Vampire weekend are both derivate of afrobeat. Vampire Weekend, IMO, should not be considered "ska-core" or anything like that.

It's indie dance with the primary influence afrobeat.

If you like Vampire Weekend you will like afrobeat and you should check it out. Some good starter artists are Fela Kuti and Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra.

All Indie rock isn't about sappy existential crisis'. In fact, most bands write postmodern songs about not much of everything that are just really catchy.

A band that I HAVE TO SHOUT ABOUT is Los Campesinos! These guys are my favorite indie dance rock band, and in a very excellent and crowded genre they stand out. Be sure to check them out.

"New" music not so new

Wow...White Sox love AND good music recommendations...am I in heaven?

I'm a geezer, so you probably wouldn't want to rock out to my Cheap Trick collection. However, I do check out local college radio quite a bit and recently stumbled upon "Ludo - You're Awful, I Love You." Some great lyrics, high energy and, hey, it rocks! Additionally, no early morning workout would be complete (nor could I withstand the agony) without a heavy dose of The Offspring...there's no song of theirs that I don't like...fun, intelligent, thought-provoking lyrics and some awesome guitar work.

I did a quick listen to some of your recommendations and heard a lot of Cream and Led Zep in The Black Keys, which I enjoyed and a definite David Bowie influence in Arcade Fire (Neon Bible).

Nice to see the kids borrowing from the best. Keep the recommendations coming. Maybe I'll come jump the fence with you at Lollapalooza...if, and only if REO Speedwagon is asked to perform.

Rant about pitchfork-hipster-media

It is a shame it is not great. As influential it is, it could be positive force for good in the world, but instead it has so much hipster bullshit in it to make it barely useful. I look at it briefly every other day, but I have to wash my hands after typing it into the keyboard.

I recommend Dusted Magazine for those seeking a different outlet.

I think they're beginning to do better

but it is clear that they don't realize the extent to which they could be influencing things positively on a literally national scale. Or they are just unable to. Whatever it is, it's super annoying that so many of their values seem at odds with those of the people they try to write for. The Pitchfork Music Fest itself is actually far better in terms of espoused values than the site itself, so it's almost like they're trying to seem cool and only let themselves show their hearts when it comes to actually dealing with physical human beings.

Are DNA that No Wave band?

I have the No New York compilation and I think they're on that.

I like a lot of the other stuff you listed (though I'd go with Wild Gift for X!).

Man this thread exploded.

I've got to recommend The Helio Sequence to all of you. It's two guys from Portland (of course) one of whom was the drummer in Modest Mouse during their breakout years, but quit the band to go back to this.

Anyways, I'm not much of a music reviewer, but their latest is a fantastic album, alternating between indy-pop and dylanesque folk tunes - I've listened to this more than any other album this year.

They're playing at the Empty Bottle May 15th. Can't recommend enough.

Some others...

Steven Malkmus & the Jicks - The latest album is my favorite. The energy and enthusiasm is infectious throughout the album. It's great music for a sunny day, whenever we get those consistently.

Crystal Castles -- It's kind of how I imagine it would sound like if Velvet Underground fucked a Nintendo. That sound is cool.

Explosions in the Sky - I can't think of another band who can keep your attention through an entire album with 10 minute instrumental songs. All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone is their best since The Earth is a Cold Dead Place

They're playing two shows in our proximity -- one in Milwaukee on Sunday May 11th and another (I've been told but haven't checked this specific one out myself) one that same week in Chicago. I'm pretty sure I'll be at the one in Milwaukee, I can't wait.

Going back to jazz drummers

Finally found some good video of Dave King of The Bad Plus. Got to see them front row center in this tiny auditorium last month, and after watching him in action, he's definitely my favorite living drummer.

by Sox Machine on Apr 8, 2008 8:51 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Hmmm...

The way that dude tunes his drums, it sounds like the drummer from Soul Coughing. Interestingly enough, that clip sounds to me like an Aphex Twin song!

If you're looking for jazz drummers in the past tense, check out Ed Blackwell. He played with Don Cherry and their album El Corazon is, IMHO, amazing.

As far as contemporary drummers go, keep on the look out for Chad Taylor of the Chicago Underground Duo. They also have recordings as the Chicago Underground Trio and Orchestra. "Possible Cube" is a good one to check out and be sure to check them out live and in concert whenever possible.

Just wondering, but did you ever venture to the Velvet Lounge when it was still around?

Don't blame me, I voted for Kodos.

by rhythm on Apr 9, 2008 5:10 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I dig it

Were they on Conan recently? If you like jazz drumers, you gotta play "Topsy, Part II". I forget the name of the group, but my Dad had a 45 in the '60's, and it was a gas. Kinda Miles Davis-like with a great drum solo. I gotta ask him about it.

(30 seconds later - thank you, Google.) Group was Cozy Cole. Cool, cool licks.

I took the "under".

by winningugly on Apr 9, 2008 7:07 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Thanks for the recommendations

I will have to check 'em out.

1. It is Aphex Twin -- "Flim" is the name of the song.
2. They were on Conan the day after I saw 'em in Albany last month.
3. Never been to the Velvet Lounge. I haven't been around Chicago much since I turned 21.

Do you want to say "I keep forgetting that you are not in NY any more" or "I keep forgetting that you are in NY"? Huh? Which one is it, old man?

BTW, I realize that since the comment wasn't directed at me, this is really inconsequential. But I thought I would bust your balls as it is usually pretty fun ;)

Next time you're in Chicago, be sure to catch a show there...

Nice memories

I think my friend from college is still the webmaster for that site, but it has a different look now so maybe not.

I used to go there quite often, Sunday night open mics were fun. And speaking of jazz drummers, Hamid Drake is a badass. Hands down favorite drummer to watch. I think my favorite line-up there was Fred, Hamid, Tatso Aoki on bass, and Jeff Parker on guitar.

My suggestion is to go during the after hours for Jazz fest - probably too crowded now - as its the only time to catch Kidd Jordan jam with Fred.

Velvet Lounge is just a few blocks from me

I was very upset when they closed the old location, usually when that happens they don't reopen. It was great news to see them back up again.

One of the things I'll miss most in Chicago is the Green Mill for Friday Happy Hour with Chris Foreman on the Hammond B-3 organ. No tourists jamming the place at that time. Just come straight down after work, no cover charge, order a martini and chill to a master on the B-3 organ, the world's mellowest instrument. A most excellent transition into the weekend.

Ya'll have some great listening suggestions

Making me feel old as WU cause I've been out of the loop for a while.

Not much indie rock in my listening rotation lately, but been listening to the Modern Jazz Quartet, Mongo Santamaria, the Misfits, a compilation of "best" marches, and Ruben Gonzales in the past few days. I guess I'm currently exploring the past and ignoring the present.

A hip hop act that I haven't seen mentioned, and absolutely love, is Cannibal Ox. There's something very geometric about their beats / vocal styling.

Don Caballero is great and their drummer kicks some major ass.

For you sax lovers out there, Roland Kirk is one of my all time favorites. Dog Years in the Fourth Ring is an incredible 3 cd set. The rendition of "Say a Little Prayer" is classic.

Don't blame me, I voted for Kodos.

Minus the Bear

I actually went out and saw Minus the Bear last night. It was the first time I had seen them since the release of Planet of Ice and was extremely impressed with the show. They didn't play a few of the songs I really wanted to hear live; however they did play a decent mix of old and new songs. I'd definitely recommend them as someone worth checking out, especially for fans of their previous works (Botch, Kill Sadie, Sharks Keep Moving).

The second band on the ticket, the Big Sleep was absolutely abysmal. I hadn't heard anything by them prior and was kind of excited considering that Allmusic had both Explosions in the Sky and Mogwai as two of their comps. Sadly the only thing they had in common with the two was that they were primarily instrumental. The most reasonable comp I could think of was Deerhunter, which in itself was an abortion of a live show.

The opening act was Portugal. The Man, which I really dug. I had listened to them before and was really interested to see how the live act would turn out. Not disappointed at all as they sounded like a cross between the Mars Volta and MGMT (with a little Fall of Troy mixed in). As it turned out they drew a much larger crowd than the second act.

RE: Deerhunter

Yeah, I was not a fan. I saw them with Battles last year, when they came to town. I liked (and still like) a few songs on Cryptograms, but was totally not at all into the show.

They are broken up now, right?

No, I think they're recording soon.

Bradford Cox was just doing his own thing while Deerhunter took a break. They had been touring the same 15 or so songs for a few years! I will be interested in seeing how they come back because I don't imagine them equally Cryptograms.

Swervedriver and Gutter Twins

Gutter Twins- Saturnalia. The singers of the Afhgan Whigs and Screaming Trees come together on a really melodic, moody, dark record. Its like you expect it to sound, which is great.

Swervedriver- everything. They are playing the Metro June 14th, I could not be more excited to see the grunge shoegazers back in action.
