Toby Hall on spring meetings: ''The last couple days of spring, it was weird, because every time I would start, I would come out in the seventh, and the days that I would back up [A.J. Pierzynski], I wouldn't come in. So I finally asked, 'What's going on?' They said they were trying to protect me, and I told them, 'Nothing's wrong. I'm fine. We don't need to baby this anymore.'
''That's what that meeting [in Guillen's office near the end of camp] was about. There was a lack of communication between that room [the trainer's room] and that room [Guillen's office].''
''My whole job here is to catch winners,'' Hall said. ''I take more pride in catching a good game than hitting. My main goal is to block, throw, catch -- try to do something positive.''

Too bad he is not good at his main goals
and is beyond terrible in his secondary(?) goals.

Of course he is going to say that when his bat has been putrid for as long as he has been with us.

Even Piazza?
What a crock THAT was.
So is he the brains behind the pitching? Are the SP's confident in how he handles a game? 'Cause I can't see any other benefit in having him around.
I took the "under".

it's just boilerplate talk
we've all been following baseball long enough to know it. and since piazza sucks/ed defensively, i'd bet he would say even more genuinely than most that he'd take pride in a good game catching because it happens infrequently for him.
