Continuing...
to follow the Knights…
In game 2 of their doubleheader against the Mudhens, Brad Eldred went deep twice in a losing effort. He now has ten homers, which I believe brings him into a tie for second in the International League (Mike Hessman has 16).
Interestingly, Chris Getz led off and played shortstop. He went 0-for-2 with a walk.

The Knights got another great showing from first baseman Brad Eldred who hit a pair of solo home runs on the night. Eldred now has 33 RBI’s on the season, good for the most in the IL.
The greatest trick the White Sox ever pulled was convincing their fan base that "Ozzieball" ever existed.

He's got a funny line.
10 doubles, 10 homers, 40 Ks.
He’s about as all-or-nothing as they come.

He's got nine walks.
When you strike out a third of your ABs in AAA, it’s hard to imagine that you’ll have much success in the majors.

By the way...
that’s a pretty messed up lineup the Mariners feature.
Willie Bloomquist batting second? Jose Lopez batting fifth? Balentien batting eighth?

Bedard's a fine pitcher
But that trade was a “win now” trade for Seattle and moreover it failed to address their biggest weakness (I know, hindsight for me but others said it at the time). They do have Bedard for another year, but still….

I iwouldn't be surprised
if an eight-man bullpen becomes the norm in a couple of years.
Modern conditioning means that position players don’t need as many days off, and relief pitchers are so specialized these days that it’s stretching them to ask them to work more than one inning.

it seems a bit like the pendulum on these pens is starting to go the other way now, at least among the more creative managers. considering how dumb it is to have such a bullpen, i’m having a hard time thinking that it will occur in this day and age.
